Also, USF vs Georgetown in the 2nd round of the Big East tourney

If USF wants to make the big one, they need to beat Georgetown and at least be a game opponent for Syracuse. Losing to Syracuse by 24 again is as good as losing today.

That's a bunch of rubbish.

It’s easier for blacks to make it in the NFL and NBA. In MLB, you have to go through the minors, which usually means a lot less money. They want to be a star right away. By being a star right away, you’re going to be making a lot of money. That is fact, as bad as it sounds.

With Monroe in foul trouble and on the bench if they want any chance it needs to start now, and Vaughn fouled out. Georgetown have a very thin bench so right it has to start, they got a chance. But USF looks really sloppy.

Thoughts?
ESPN knows sports, but their record with sports films is a totally different matter. Beginning with 2002’s A Season on the Brink, they’ve hardly delivered a credible sports film worthy of their place at the top of the sports-entertainment heap. Who can forget Tom Sizemore’s ill-fitting Pete Rose wig in Hustle or Oliver Platt’s oversized harrumphing in The Bronx is Burning? Yesterday, the network announced plans to tackle Vince Lombardi, the legendary Green Bay Packers football coach whose name now graces the Super Bowl trophy, and this time, the network is pulling no punches. For one, the film will be a theatrical release, not a made-for-TV effort. More importantly, they’ve nabbed Robert De Niro to play the iconic coach and hired Eric Roth (Forrest Gump) to write the script.

One more year Brett. One more year.

by PriceMultiCyYoungs on Mar 10, 2010 2:04 PM EST reply actions

Forrest Gump

was a book written by Winston Groom, so all Roth really did was adapt it for the screen (although it was a lot different). It could be good. I’ll pay eight bucks and give it a shot in the theater.

Need input

My boss has asked me to research an office computer (presumably for myself). The stipulations:

  • must have 2 video outs
  • must have a minimum of 4GB of RAM
  • must be premanufactured (so no buying parts and building it ourselves)
  • must not ‘break the bank’

I’m eyeing this: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Lenovo+-+ThinkPad+Laptop+with+Intel%26%23174%3B+Centrino%26%23174%3B+Processor+Technology+-+Matte+Black/9711929.p?id=1218156147912&skuId=9711929

I haven’t done this kind of shit in a long time so my computer technology knowledge is old. Anybody know of any better value-for-money machines?

Macs have a much higher price point for the technology you get.

Don’t be fooled by those Mac commercials; the difference between Mac OSX and Windows 7 is marginal. The cost difference relies on 2 factors:

1. Macs are trendy
2. You typically do not need to run an antivirus program with Macs

Because of the lack of an AV application needed on a mac, you get a little more performance for the parts that you get, but if you spend a few extra bucks on your PC, you can buy out that performance difference, so the question is, do you want to spend more to own a mac so that you don’t have to run AV software and possibly draw attention to your trendy computer?

Can't really go wrong with IBM (IBM bought Lenovo), but...

You said you wanted 2 video outs. As far as I can tell, this only has one and its HDMI. Most monitors take DVI input (although a bunch now are taking HDMI, but its really unnecessary in most cases). Also, a 14 inch screen is kinda small by today’s standards if you are going to be using the laptop’s monitor.

Are you looking at a desktop or laptop? FYI- check out Dell’s site. Their machines are actually pretty good.

I'm guessing, although it doesn't say,

that its either/or. As in HDMI or VGA. And if you are using HDMI on one monitor, you really don’t want to use VGA on the other. You will get a headache. Seriously, VGA is bad. Its digital and, similar to florecent lights, it flickers. HSDMI/DVI is digital. No refresh, no flicker. Don’t use VGA…

Tampa you’re right about Dell; their ranking has risen from what I remember. I still find that 20% repair rate unacceptable. My family’s Commodore 64 worked for 8 freaking years without needing a repair.

Lenovo is a good brand

I would dual boot it with your Windows OS of choice and ubuntu linux. Ubuntu is user friendly, well documented, free, impervious to viruses, and is quite modern in terms of supporting various media. I got that kind of setup for work and feel spoiled. Plus putting “linux user” on your CV is a plus these days.

I've used Ubuntu...

I really like it. Good GUI. But don’t plan on running windows apps smoothly. There’s a program that does it (Wine), but it works spotty at best…

That's why he suggested a dual-boot config.

This is probably what I’m going to do regardless since I intend on building a PHP dev environment.

Problem with that is...

You cut your harddrive space in half. Or at least reduce it significantly for each OS. I’ve done that before. IMO, Its best to stick with one or the other on an individual machine.

Indeed, but this is a work machine; I'm doing web development on it, what's most important to me in terms of performance is multitasking capabilities, not storage.

Fair enough

Personally, on any dual boot system I’ve ever had, I wind up primarily using one or the other…

I just realized...

That site says:
Built-in Realtek 10/100 Gigabit Ethernet LAN

10/100 is fast ethernet. 10/100/1000 is gigabit ethernet. Its probably a typo, but I’d find out for sure before buying.
