Velocity for Benoit....
I've seen many people asking, and I know I've been wondering..."Who cares about ST results, how's Benoit's velocity?" Finally we have some semblance of an answer per Jayson Stark:
http://insider.espn.go.com/mlb/blog?name=stark_jayson&id=4990395
"Hardest throwers I've run across in my Florida travels: Strasburg and Daniel Bard topped out at 98 mph. The group at 97: Matt Lindstrom (Astros), Joaquin Benoit (Rays), Jose Ceda (Marlins), Romulo Sanchez (Yankees), Merkin Valez (Blue Jays), Bobby Parnell (Mets)."
Benoit is running it up to 97? That is huge news IMO.

really?
Why does fangraphs say his average fastball has always been around 92-93 then? Is that only because that takes into consideration 2 seamers too? Or can he actually crank it up to 97 if he wants but usually stays around 92-93? I would think as a reliever he wouldnt be leaving too much in reserve when he pitches.

I think there's a pretty good chance Stark's gun is juiced.
For instance, while everyone had Aroldis hitting 102, Law had him topping out around 98-99. The good news is that he’s into the 90s.

I would imagine...
He topped out at 97 on a somewhat fast gun. But he is listed with some other big arms, so it could be legit. Regardless, if he can sit 92-94 then we should be very happy….and this report makes this sound reasonable.
Wow...you've gone off the deep end with Balfour pretty quickly
Is he dead to you at this point?
I love Casey Fossum. Now try and take me seriously.

Six 3R HRs since the '08 ALCS will do that sort of thing
Here’s hoping Benoit can still throw gas, and down the road McGee is the Price of ’08
