Get him back?

There's gotta be more to this, I seriously doubt they'd release him because they have a better option to play in his place.
He’s either run afoul of team policy or he’s in incredibly poor shape.

@TBO_Rays Rays vs. Twins: Maddon says competition for the fifth starter's job is very tight between favorite Wade Davis and Andy Sonnanstine.

This leads me to believe they are trying to find a taker for Sonny

Or finding a reason to send down Davis for 30 or so days and play the clock game.
There’s a reason Evan Longoria has 1 year and 170 days of service time. (You need 172 days for a year of service).
I would be surprised if they left Hellickson as the safety net, especially since nothing Sonnanstine is bringing back helps the team now as much as he could.

@masnBen I'm told Dukes' release had nothing to do with off-the-field issues.
From Yer Scurvy Dog SRQman
Sonny has done great
when he faces AA and journeymen players.

Or
Ortiz 4-23 OPS .594
Pedroia 5-23 .707
Youk 4-20 .662
Cherry picked? Sure. But so was AA and journeymen players.

The best thing that could happen for the Rays....
Is for Sonny to go to AAA, Davis or Niemann rolls an ankle and is out for 4-6 weeks in June, Sonny comes up and dominates, Davis or Niemann comes back, and Sonny is traded at the dealine for Scott Kazmir.
Yea, I'm still waiting on the shoe

I wonder if they consider the clubhouse off-field?
It could be a clubhouse chemistry thing; they jettisoned Lastings Milledge for the same reason.

The Nats were afraid his attitude would be bad since there were no more DC women
for him to impregnate.

FREE SPEACH is a myth. There is no such thing as 100% free speech. You cannot go into a movie theater and say "FIRE"!…"What? I have freedom of speach!" Bull. Doesnt work that way. Any real lawyer will tell you that.

Nats fans are pretty up in arms about this:
http://www.federalbaseball.com/2010/3/17/1377326/washington-nationals-release
Seem to focus on him not getting enough playing time to be productive. I’m pretty much convinced that they weren’t pleased with how he conducted himself in the clubhouse, but at the same time, they sure did dick around with him a lot last year.

But I wouldn’t be shocked if something like that happened.

Not sure where we'd play him, but would be nice to have him back. I'd take him over Blalock any day.

funny article
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/spring2010/news/story?id=5002750&campaign=rss&source=MLBHeadlines
So…it was 100% a performance issue, yet the team’s chemistry will be better, they’re not sure who’s going to replace him, and some of the guys have said some other things…hmmm…..this doesn’t sound 100% performance related to me.
The more I learn about this story, the more I'm inclined to think that the reason he was released is because it's the Nationals, and they're stupid.
