3/21/10 GDT: Tampa Bay Rays @ Minnesota Twins, Pittsburgh Pirates
Split-squad today, so we've got two games worth of baseball to follow. I love double-headers, but it's odd when they happen at the same time.
When: 1:05 PM
Where: Lee County Sports Complex, McKechnie Field
Radio: 620 AM WDAE, both (I don't understand how this is possible)
Rays Pitching Probables vs. Twins: Wade Davis, Heath Phillips, Dale Thayer
Twins Pitching Probables: Scott Baker, Jose Mijares, Glen Perkins, Clay Condreyat
Rays Pitching Probables vs. Pirates: Andy Sonnanstine, Joe Bateman, Jeff Bennett
Pirates Pitching Probables: Daniel McCutchen, Vinnie Chulk, Octavio Dotel
Dale Thayer. Let's see how ready your mustache is for some low-leverage MLB innings...

The radio guys will split up. One is in Bradenton and one in Ft. Myers
They will switch off every few innings or so.

Unfortunately, this means us out-of-towners can't listen on MLB.tv ><
Look at your man, now back to me, now back at your man, now back to me. I'm on a horse.
This should make sternfan happy, but with J.P.'s injury, I wonder if the Rays would look at Russ Springer again.
I still think on a cheap deal Beimel makes some sense.

I'd prefer Washburn, but either of those other two are quality guys

I was waiting for someone to suggest rushing McGee/Torres.

Scout I talked to wasn't too impressed with him.
Was very impressed with Matthew Moore though.

That's tough to understand
as a SP or reliever?
Dunno, either way he wasn't showing much pop on his fastball. 88-90.
The term “flat” was used.
Could just be a bad day though.

Those echo Adam Foster's thoughts

What'd he say about Moore?
All I heard was he looked good.

It was actually Denny Foster

eh likes giving up runs and doesn’t afraid of anything.

Maddon said 5th starter decision may come sooner than exepected as a result of JP
Sonny to the pen?

He can get both hands out, and he's probably a ~3.5-4 RA reliever, but seems a bit worthless unless they're giving him high-ish leverage innings
by R.J. Anderson on Mar 21, 2010 12:05 PM EDT up reply actions
He could work out of the pen in high lev til JP recovers and get stretched back out in Durham after
I still prefer saving Davis’ clock

Not as concerned with clock for pitchers.
Attrition, injury, and weird aging patterns. I’d be fine with it, but it’s not a must to me.

Very concerned with this bullpen now
I see nothing in Durham, but McGee
Carlos Hernandez would be a very nice addition to the ML pen

I agree.
I think C-dez would be a great stop-gap until JP comes back. Rollins is reminding me a lot of Shawn Camp, in terms of his sinker. McGee is not ready yet.
Blah!

Rollins had a 45.4 GB% last year as a SP in AA
Per statcorner. According to Sabermetrics library, 44% is average for MLB. So, he’s not really a GB machine, unless something has changed since last year. (He did post a 53% in A, but only 44% in A+)
I believe K/9 usually goes up when converting to RP, not sure about GB% though.

And what was Price's deal yesterday?
Jacque Jones mashing the ball against him?

For the lulz
TBO_Rays
Rays @ Pirates: So much for the rain holding off for a bit. It’s raining and thundering in Bradenton. But a couple of Rays are shitting.
From Yer Scurvy Dog SRQman
so has Hellickson pitched in any minor league games since being sent down.
It seems like it has been awhile since his name has popped up anywhere.
I don't think I'm Andy
but expanding the tournament would be ridiculously stupid at this point.
Besides, I’ve heard the idea floated of making it 96 teams. How the hell would that work?

Question:
Is this scouting report on Jake Mcgee accurate?
I was the head of the Eric Berry bandwagon- Im sad to say its over.
Puffy Rod's Bandwagon continues forever.
New head of the Matthew Barnaby Bandwagon!!!
Mauer will not be wearing pinstripes next year
#Twins just announced Mauer deal. Eight years, $184M!
Good for baseball.
"That was a lot of fun… You just keep pounding balls into the gap. The one thing you don’t want to do is hit a home run. That’s a rally-killer." Jeff Francoeur
was just about to post the exact same thing
this is good for baseball indeed

Happiest persons after that deal was announced would be
Twins fans and Victor Martinez agent ;)

Congrats Twins fans and Joe Mauer.
Glad he won’t be a Yankee for the next 4 years.

Texas A&M lost
that region has now gone to hell for me.
Duke still isn’t gettting past the Round of 16.
