Opportunity beckons.
Abreu and Ekstrom need to rise to the challenge and put in some good displays if they want to make the opening day roster, in relation to recent injuries. I would love to see Abreu do better than his other short stints in the majors and make the transition from his AAA ball success.
Look for AF to sign a reliever or two
with JP’s injury and the poor performances of some of the relievers, he’ll be quick to react
Washburn please

According to Buster O., Washburn turned down $5mill from the Brewers
If true, I wouldn’t be too optimistic

I can definitely see that happening.
It wouldn’t be surprising to see a couple more signings being made. The real interesting aspect of this dilemma is how it all impacts the 5th spot debate. Maddon’s recent comments on deciding the 5th starter sooner rather than later would indicate that Sonny is going to be put into the bullpen with Davis getting the starting job. That’s how I’m inclined to interpret his veiled statements anyway. If that is the case, the whole argument for starting Davis in the minors and delaying his service clock seems to have weakened along with Howell’s shoulder.
It also could mean Sonny is more likely to be traded, Wait for it......for a reliever
and hopefully something else

I don't really get the logic behind that
He would be as good if not better than just about any reliever that we bring in outside of Heath Bell. The only guys up for grabs now have obvious question marks. Sonny could thrive in the pen, IMO.

Contingent on the unknown
Most relievers alone, the answer would be no. If they got a minor leaguer with potential, it may change things

Do you see another team valuing Sonny as worth a league-average reliever today plus a low-level/high-upside spect?
I don’t.

So now Maddon is thinking about Zo-Longo-Pena 3-4-5
My vote is for CC/Barty platooning leadoff spot with Zo-Longo-Pena 2-3-4

Since its a contract year, he's on record as saying he'd be willing to play CF
That seems like the bigger sacrifice

K, Haven't been able to track down the quote.
I know I referenced it on 2/23. I hope to find it later b/c I would hate to have misread something.

Better selection and more protection for Zobrist.
The case of putting Zobrist higher up the order would indicate a simple desire to utilize his OBP but a larger reasoning could be the benefits of slotting Zobrist behind CC. Longoria enjoyed seeing more fastballs as a result of batting behind CC and we all know how well Zobrist connects with one of those and how other teams started to starve Zobrist of the juicy high heat.
from @TBO_Rays
#Rays Shoppach just drove his third HR of the spring over LF fence. Rays 4-0 in top of second against BoSox in Fort Myers.

I'm looking at some stuff now, but Pena has a .426 wOBA against Lester with 4 homers that doesn't seem likely.

Probably the pitch angle or something
Doesn’t Pena have like 6HRs against Pettitte?

4, those are the two pitchers that he has the most career off of
Somehow he has 3 off of Dan Haren who is crazy good and has been in the NL through Pena’s glory years here.

Haren was still in Oakland in 2007
I’d actually largely forgotten about Haren being an A. Been a while.

They had some pitching talent

I sure do like this new Shoppach guy

I'm not joking. Camp is a good middle reliever.
When he doesn’t have a .400+ BABIP, he’s been very good for Toronto.
