Rays Win Beat Orioles 8-3; Ride Six Game Win Streak
If only these games really counted...
Despite the heavy dose of American League East games, the Rays just keep on winning. The boys defeated ALE rival, Baltimore 8-3 this afternoon, and own a six game winning streak. It may not mean anything come April 6th, but winning is always good for moral.
Jeff NIemann became the first Rays pitcher to toss four innings this spring. The Big NyQuil allowed a home run and a single over his four innings while striking out two batters. NIemann did a fine job of getting ground balls with a 7:3 groundball to flyball ratio.
Jeremy Hellickson made another appearance and did not disappoint. Of course, it toward the end of the game against players wearing jersey numbers in the mid-sixties, but Hellickson faced four batters and struck out all four. His ticket to Durham is all but punched, however, the young righty has only added to his preseason hype.
Offensively, Sean Rodriguez added another extra-base hit (double) and stole a bag. Carl Crawford also stole a base while Evan Longoria drove in two runs. Reid Brignac, Rodriguez' main competition, continues to impress, and is swinging the bat like he's in back in the California League.
On to the next one...

Hellickson was FILTHY
When Hellickson came on I made sure to move directly behind home plate behind some radar guns so that I could see pitch speeds and the movement on his pitches (nasty tail on his fastball). He took the final batter 0-2 with a 78 mph and an 80 mph change-up, then ended up blowing him away with some 94 mph gas.
The scouts around me were blasting Maddon for waiting to bring Hellickson into the game, but in the meantime they were raving about the fact that Hellickson can thrown whichever pitch he wants, whenever he wants. Only one scout dissented, claiming that Hellickson is only the third best pitcher on the staff, behind Shields and Davis.
Ugh! I wish I could have been there!
And thanks for the report.

Not necessarily.
That was the plan before ST started. Which isn’t to say that he hasn’t made the team, but that wouldn’t be why I would think that.
Probables don't go out that far, but I think that's Garza's day.

Has anyone seen Torres this spring?
I saw him throwing on the side Saturday, but the fence was blacked out. Thus it wasn’t very illustrative. Anybody got anything? He’s a really interesting prospect to me because of his K totals.
