Platoon Question
The Rays have used the platoon very effectively. Gabe Gross and Gabe Kapler together made a pretty good player. So my question is what is the general feeling on platooning young players, for instance Sean Rodriguez or Reid Brignac. I understand the numbers and that the Rays are using the best guy for the best situation, but what does that mean for the long run. Is Reid Brignac only going to play against right-handed pitchers? Is there a chance that either of these guys will become an every day infielder? Do they practice their weaker sides? Do I worry too much?
Maybe I answered my own question, in that management has to play for right now. It is a nice problem to have such a deep bench. I just wonder how it effects a young players development. I remember Johnny Gomes saying he didn't even practice against lefties when he was with the Rays. I apologize if this has already been covered here. Thanks.

Once Barty is gone, Brignac should be a full-time player.
He’s platooning now to get MLB at bats, because he has nothing left to prove at AAA. He’s semi-stuck in a numbers game.
RIP Andy Hellicksonstine. He died, like so many young men of his generation, he died before his time. In your wisdom, SBN, you took him, as you took so many bright flowering young men at the OTTOTD. These young men gave their lives. And so would Andy. Andy, who loved trannies.
This, we are in the midst of an all-in year
As it is, Rodriguez has faced more RHP than LHP to date. Brignac will get his share of low leverage PA vs LHP, but the likely scenario is to platoon this year with the eye on the future for full time roles.

I would love to see some more games of Brignac at SS and Rodriguez at 2B, so far we have only had one
I know how good Bartlett can be but it is something that should at least be considered against RHP.
And when Barty is gone, Brignac’s lack of a bat vs LHP will be fine because he has an amazing glove.
Fire and Ice: Rafael Soriano and J.P Howell.......with their side kick Grant the aussie Balfour!
As long as he's not a complete horror show against LHP, he will be an upgrade over MVB.
Better d, better hitter against the majority of pitchers, a history of power (even gap power is an improvement over Barty).
I honestly can’t wait until that guy is no longer our SS.

I'd temper the enthusiam a bit
The defense should be an upgrade. Brignac’s AAA wOBA is in the ballpark of Bartlett’s MLB expected wOBA vs RHP. Be careful not to rush to judgement on a sample size of 23 PA vs exclusively RHP.

But I do expect MVB to worsen and Reid to improve over time. Simple intuition.
