Can't argue with the results thus far in AAA
but his SwSt% still seems a little low. Thanks for these updates, I enjoy them.

So not too bad combined.
He’s definitely moving up the prospect board, esp being so young

Bulls
Just a reminder/heads up that the Bulls will be on MLB Network Monday morning 1100. I’m hoping one of the vendors is serving coffee to everyone. And maybe earplugs. It’s education day and the place is full of kids with really piercing voices.
Heath Rollins will be making the start place of the injured Virgil Vasquez

Rollins on 4-days rest
Baker on 3(?). Or De Los Santos? Could be a mess, followed by trip to Buffalo. Assuming that Rays on the hunt in the Independent leagues. Tough to lose two starters, Bennett and Vasquez, so early. Cromer due back soon. Where’s Jeremy Cummings these days.
Love these updates, thanks
Other than Howell, the Rays have never really developed and brought up a reliever. Torres, Rodriguez, Colome, McGee – do these guys project as high-leverage bullpen arms for us in the future?
It seems like the rays like to find cheap FA relievers
They will put failed or stuck starters in the pen (Howell, Hammel, Sonnanstine), but I think they also like to trade those guys because of the return value versus what they would get using them as a reliever. I guess it just depends on what kind of pitcher they are and the starter/bullpen situation, when the guys you listed are deemed ready. I don’t think they really ever try to ‘develope’ relievers.
My opinion is:
Rodriguez could follow the same path of the player he was traded for (long relief/traded)…
Torres and McGee might end up being stuck and relegated to the pen…
Colome is too far away to tell…
Love these updates too by the way, thanks.

What about Dan Wheeler?
DRB: There is certainly good content, but other than that the behavior here is pretty poor; They are right, you are wrong. End of story.
This is supposed to be the less technical, more relaxed blog for cool kids.

I think he was thinking about this ownership group
Wheeler kinda falls under that failed starter situation though too, no?

Can't the same be said for 90% of all relievers though?

That was sorta what I was trying to say
Besides drafting college guys that were relievers, they will use their failed starters. But they would rather take the proven cheap FA guys than waste their prospects as relievers. Some work out as relievers, but most of the players they have developed that ended up in the pen were in that situation because of lack of options and were the last guy in. Sonnanstine and Hammel are/were mop up guys. Howell is the only guy that has become a high leverage reliever, and who would have guessed that would happen? I think they just believe its a waste of their resources to turn these guys into relievers.

More from Sobsey
Aneury Rodriguez looks a little like a younger Winston Abreu: tall and lanky, a shock of curly black hair atop a bright, intelligent face

And the most recent scouting report on stuff:
Rodriguez doesn’t throw hard—he touched 92 with one pitch, but his fastball generally sits around 89 mph. His curveball is only average right now, but he has a good slider and an effective changeup—and most importantly, that fastball has tremendous movement and life. There’s one version that swerves like a cutter, another that seems to rise; the upshot is that Rodriguez seldom threw two consecutive pitches to the same spot, at the same velocity, and he had the Braves flummoxed throughout the night. His throwing motion is kind of all-over-the-place, a lot of limbs in a lot of directions, and I couldn’t help wondering if his delivery was keeping the Braves from picking up his pitches

The deception of his delivery could make him a dangerous relief option

Scouting report sounds like Shields
That great change and slider and good moving fastball that he can’t throw too hard. Of course, I doubt he will ever be that good but you never know!
Wade Davis’s prediction is running out of time, no McGee in Durham still. Any chance him or Torres come to AAA?
One final question…. any word when Alex Cobb is returning? Always thought he was under the radar and now he is up to AA.
Fire and Ice: Rafael Soriano and J.P Howell.......with their side kick Grant the aussie Balfour!
Wade Davis' what?
RIP Andy Hellicksonstine. He died, like so many young men of his generation, he died before his time. In your wisdom, SBN, you took him, as you took so many bright flowering young men at the OTTOTD. These young men gave their lives. And so would Andy. Andy, who loved trannies.
Davis predicted McGee would be in Durham by May
Obviously the injury isn’t helping the cause.

Last I read from Stacy Long:
He was shooting for late-April/early-May. He started his throwing program in late-March.

I mean it’s the majors, Joyce. It’s AAA, McGee! and I think if Sweeney had a quicker start he would get a early promotion to AA

They make for a great read and handy insight into the current situation at Durham.

The knock on him is that he struggles with injuries.
I hope you’re right, dudebroman, but I’ll be more optimistic once he strings together a few weeks of PT.

I think that's why they're being cautious.
They know they don’t need to worry about his trade value, he likely won’t be called upon this year, so what’s the rush in getting him PAs if his wrist is still nagging. Obviously I’d like to see him back, but I’m holding off on the Nick Johnson button.
Oh, he's definitely 3rd OF called up in case of emergency. I am just looking for reason to believe that his injury problems were more random than something to be worried about going forward.

DJ not called upon this year?
I know it’s not broken and all, but I still think DJ in right and Zo everyday at 2nd is the best lineup we can put on the field – spectacular defensively, more speed in the lineup, and I don’t think we’d be giving up much if anything at the plate. I was hoping he got that call by the ASB. You really think the plan was to not see him until September?
Fun video with Matt Moore showing his pitches.
