Minor League Highlights 4/28

AAA Durham Bulls W 9-2

Jeremy Hellickson rebounded from his worst start of the season with a better not great performance allowing two runs on six hits and a walk in 5.2 IP. Helly struck out 5 as he threw 68 of his 96 pitches for strikes including 17 whiffs. The Durham Extra Base Hit Parade was back in effect as Chris Richard (4), Angel Chavez (2), and Rashad Eldridge (1) all hit homers, while Justin Ruggiano (6), Hank Blalock (3) and Dan Johnson (3) chipped in doubles. Eldridge, Ruggiano, Blalock, and Chavez all reached safely three times.

 

AA Montgomery Biscuits W 6-3

Jeremy Hall surrendered two runs on four hits and a walk in 5.1 innings while striking out five. He generated 10 whiffs on his 79 pitches. Matt Fields was 3-4 with his fifth double and fifth home run while Emeel Salem was 2-3 with a triple and a walk. Greg Sexton was 2-3 with a walk and Nevin Ashley went 1-3 with a walk.

*Ryan Royster is having surgery on a herniated disk and will miss at least six weeks.

*Jake McGee completed his fielding drill and is scheduled to start Tuesday which is a few days beyond where he normally would go.

A+ Charlotte Stone Crabs W 6-3

Frank De Los Santos was back on the hill inducing ground outs once again to the tune of seven ground outs to one fly out. For the season De Los Santos now has 31 ground outs to just five fly outs.  His final line includes three runs on five hits and three walks in six innings while striking out seven. The Charlotte bullpen was once again in shutdown mode as Marquis Fleming hurled two clean innings and Zach Quate one, each with a pair of strikeouts. Tim Beckham erupted today for two triples and a walk in a 2-3 effort, while Isaias Velasquez was 2-2 with a pair of walks and two steals giving him ten on the season. Matt Sweeney was 0-3 with a walk and two strikeouts and Kyeong Kang was 0-4 with three strikeouts.

 

A Bowling Green Hot Rods L 7-4

Kyle Lobstein went 5.2 innings and allowed a pair of runs on five hits and three walks while striking out three. Delvis Mavarez struck out three in 2.1 innings of work while allowing just one hit. Mavarez now has 18 strikeouts to just 3 walks in 15.2 innings of work. Scott Shuman took the loss on a rough night where he allowed five runs in the ninth on four hits and two walks while striking out two. Brett Nommensen was 3-4 with his third double and eight steal. Chris Murrill stole a pair of bases in a pinch running role to bring his season total to six. Ryan Wiegand was 2-4 with his third double and Tyler Bortnick added his sixth double and fifth steal.
