I’m not trying to say he’s worth $10 million. My concern is that JP’s career is done. Labrum surgery for a pitcher is an extremely serious procedure. Chances are good that when he comes back, he is significantly worse then he was prior to the surgery. But the Rays are going to have a lot of money freed up and this team may be composed in such a way where all the team really needs to sign is a bullpen ace like Sori. If that’s the case, I think a 3 year $30m deal might be worth the risk.

I suppose that's true. Regardless of whether they sign Soriano or not, there needs to be a plan B in place in case velocity isn't the only thing he loses.

I really do see this as a similar situation.
This team needed a capable releiever bad, and they overpaid for someone who could do his job.
Coming this offseason, this team is going to need to make sure it has a relief ace, and if they don’t it’s not completely illogical to pay good money for Soriano.

For the Rays you better be lights out
The only guys in the pen that Soriano has a higher strike rate then are Sonny, Corms, and Ekstrom. All the guys above him have a lower walk rate too except for Wheeler who when you adjust for his IBB is about equal in walks.
