Rays' Farm Position Player Watch II
I realize these #'s are not all up-to-date, but they were all pulled over the weekend. Keep in mind the objective is to track progress over the season.

more about velasquez pls
RIP Andy Hellicksonstine. He died, like so many young men of his generation, he died before his time. In your wisdom, SBN, you took him, as you took so many bright flowering young men at the OTTOTD. These young men gave their lives. And so would Andy. Andy, who loved trannies.

Blalock
Think I’d put him down as a third baseman. Wonder how much the Rays are going to get for him in trade?
yes

Yea, due to the glut of 1B
Chris Richard, Dan Johnson, Blalock and Ryan Shealy have all been in the lineup at the same time. Richard in LF, yikes.

Rays will rue the day they give him away in a trade
He’s still 29 and has always displayed exceptional power
If he keeps playing this well then they will need to give him a shot a somepoint
He could really help this club
Free Dan Johnson!
The question is who goes down?
There is no easy answer or he would probably already be up
Free Dan Johnson!
I think trading Blalock for Pujols would turn out well.

2 possibilities
a) if you had to make a move now, I’d guess that S-Rod would go down.
b) as the FO continues to evaluate things, I imagine that releasing Burrell remains on their radar
He can't play third.
And teams aren’t stupid. A month in Triple-A isn’t changing his value from when he couldn’t get anything more than a minor league deal.

What do they know about him now that the didn't know about him four weeks ago?
That he can hit well in small stretches at Triple-A?
by R.J. Anderson on May 9, 2010 3:08 PM EDT up reply actions
.
The Mariners continue to be a mess — they’re 11-19, have lost eight straight and are averaging 3.1 runs per game. Chone Figgins is hitting .192. As Larry Stone writes, it’s not a good time to be trying to trade for hitting, because there are so few sellers right now. Which is why the Mariners’ best shot for upgrading their offense might be a deal with the Kansas City Royals for Jose Guillen, which is going to be a pricey gamble. Another possibility: Maybe Seattle could try to acquire Hank Blalock, who is hitting close to .400 in Triple-A for the Rays.

Yeah they are.

They'll have 48 hours
To work something out with him if a team does give him a major league offer. Someone like Seattle may well do it, they’re getting desperate. But the Rays made sure that they have time to evaluate – they essentially have right of first refusal at this point.
Dan Johnson has played third base too.
Neither is playing third in the majors.

Shoulder and back issues.
Even before those, he wasn’t good. He’s a 1B/DH. It’d be like playing Russ Branyan at 3B.
by R.J. Anderson on May 9, 2010 3:59 PM EDT up reply actions
Isn't that the point of playing him at 3B at AAA?
To find out how much of his injury history is going to affect his play? I haven’t watched him enough to know.
I think he's just playing 3B at Triple-A because we literally have four 1B in the lineup there.
And he just so happens to be better than Johnson.
It seems moot though. He’s never playing third base for the Rays. Even if Longoria is out, I think Aybar, Rodriguez, Zobrist, or Brignac would slide over.
by R.J. Anderson on May 9, 2010 4:05 PM EDT up reply actions
Assuming Blalock takes Burrell's roster slot, of course.
by R.J. Anderson on May 9, 2010 4:06 PM EDT up reply actions
wasn't the question
Blalock’s value to other teams?
Stephanie is right — none of us have watched him enough at AAA to know whether other teams would use Blalock in the Eric Hinske 4-corners role. I can’t imagine, though, that he’s any worse than plenty of those guys who play 3B once a week for plenty of other teams.
Velasquez has improved every step of the way. In fact this year he's gone from INF to OF and has increased his offensive numbers
Only a year older than the phenom, he’s putting together a nice resume
Hypothetical on Beckham
He’s a 14th round pick out of HS, and his numbers in professional baseball are the same
Where does he stand as a prospect?
The reason he's a prospect has to do with his tools more than anything else, so if those are the same he's still a prospect

DJ for DH!
Maybe Hank is the better option though. Is either a possibility or is Maddon too loyal?

Kyeong Kang is certainly interesting.
Anyone know the scouting report on his D?
Drinking Sunny D because the purple stuff is rank.
TZ has him at below average
