Minor League Highlights 6/10

AAA Durham Bulls W 6-1

I don't usually get too in depth on Heath Phillips starts based on his AAAA status and proximity to the big league club, but Phillips allowed just one earned run for the third consecutive start. In total, Phillips allowed just four hits and two walks in 7.1 innings while also amassing six strikeouts. Phillips induced 9 whiffs on an economical 86 pitches, and 9 of 13 batted outs came on the ground. Jose Lobaton was 2-3 with his eighth double, fifth home run, and a walk, while Matt Joyce was 2-3 with his fourth double and a walk. Desmond Jennings and Dan Johnson each finished 1-4 with Jennings hitting his 9th double.

AA Montgomery Biscuits W 13-5

Alex Torres allowed four runs on nine hits and one walk through 5.2 innings while striking out four. Torres registered 13 whiffs on 94 pitches. Cody Cipriano was 3-4 with his 2nd home run, 5th double, and a walk to lead the charge. John Matulia was 3-5 with his fourth triple, while Emeel Salem was 4-6. Leslie Anderson and Matt Sweeney were each 3-5, while Nevin Ashley was 2-4 with a walk.

A+ Charlotte Stone Crabs W 3-2

Nick Barnese allowed two runs on eight hits and no walks through five innings while striking out just one. 10 of 13 batted outs came on the ground. The Charlotte bullpen hurled five shutout innings of one-hit, no walk, and six strikeout baseball to earn the win. This was a job well done by Matt Bush, Neil Schenk, Michael Jarman, and Zach Quate. Offensively the team scattered five singles and walked four times. Jake Jefferies was 1-2 with a pair of walks. Tim Beckham was 0-4 with a walk, while Reid Fronk and Isaias Velasquez contributed hits.

Marquis Fleming and Neil Schenk were added to the all-star team.
