Report: Justin Ruggiano Heading to Tampa Bay to Replace Gabe Kapler
We cannot confirm this rumor yet, but sources (site member sstamour) have told us that Durham Bulls outfielder, Justin Ruggiano, is on a plane heading to Tampa Bay to replace Gabe Kapler. There is no report as to the reason for the move, be it injury or DFA.
Kapler, with a ,270wOBA, is not having his best season. He's a personal favorite of a number of Rays' fans due to his personality on and off the field. If Kapler is indeed cut, we wish him all the best.
Justin Ruggiano is currently hitting .291/.380/.406 in Durham. He's had previous experience with the big league club in 2007 and 2008, compiling 96 at bats.
We'll update you with you as information becomes available.
Update: Kapler to 15 day DL with hip flexor.

Wouldn’t be the first time she’s had the scoop. Somebody pay the woman.

I'm going with
I feel confident in my info and am standing behind it. Always a chance I’m wrong though.
Kapler was so bad, bout time.

This doesn't make sense as a DFA.
Unless something’s going on with Kapler that we don’t know about, he’s a better player than Ruggiano. I fail to see how this swap does anything but weaken us.
If is a DFA, good luck to him indeed, and Hank Blalock should start packing his bags. Burrell and Kapler both got about 100 PA, Blalock shouldn’t get 75.
Agreed
Kapler hasn’t had his best season, but Ruggiano doesn’t seem to be an answer as a replacement. I like Joyce, but would it make sense to bring up Joyce as the replacement for Kapler considering he is a lefty and struggles against his lefty counterparts?
Ruggiano is basically a lesser Kapler clone

He has a .277 wOBA.
And are you sure that you really want to point to a game in which he singles three times as the banner game for him?

Are you saying he should become fashionable or elitist or snarky or condescending? Is he supposed to adopt logical fallacies as his core technique of debate? Is he supposed to bleat religious proclamations and claim they are "proved" by statistics when they aren’t?

How about we do something about us having 3 catchers

Also are we being too quick to rule a possible injury to Crawford?
I know he played last night (the entire game nonetheless), but it was just a thought that popped into my head.
I dont think so, I havent seen anything and he is playing normally.

With Ruggiano joining Zobrist on the Rays, can the 3rd member of the Cevallos triumvirate be far behind?

.394 OBP for Nevin in AA thus far
A very nice BB/K for a catcher

3 catchers is having us have Aybar at 2B and Blalock in RF, that needs to be changed
I am going to assume this “injury” last longer than 15 days so what about Bartlett off the DL, Joyce to the majors…. Navi and Ruggiano to AAA
Well Rafael Soriano and Joquain Benoit is very nice also.
I'm guessing the "injury" will result in a "rehab" assignment
And if he doesn’t regain his form in the minors, he’s gone. Bartlett will be up for Navi and Joyce will be up as soon as he can throw in the outfield on a regular basis. Joyce has been hitting extremely well in AAA since the injury.
My only wish from Ruggs: Play better defense this time.
When John Jaso strikes out twice in a game, he becomes Kohn Kaso, which is Spanish for "with cheese."
I second this
for whatever that’s worth. I hope he can at least play good D. As for hitting if he can bring anything above a .310 wOBA I would be happy with average to plus defense.
Rugg will always hold a special place in my heart
… because of his one extraordinary defensive play he WAS able to make out there.
Shit…. who am I kidding. I end up having a special place in my heart for a LOT of guys who have been in the Rays minor league system for any extended amount of time….
