Wasn't it reported that one of the reasons the trade never happened was because we refused to include Briggy?
Not that I remember.
It was that Boston and LA decided to go through with the 3-way after backing down a couple of times and the Pirates wanted quantity over quality.
If John Jaso somehow strikes out, it means you didn’t do your job right as an umpire.

I remember reading that the RFO thought it was a done deal.

According to a former Pirates' exec. Brignac and Niemann was the offer.

Would Bay only have been here for 2008?
Or was he under contract through last year?

Then I'm glad it didn't go through
We’ll get much more from them than we would have gotten from Bay.

Andrew Friedman
Has said that the reports are not entirely accurate. He hasn’t revealed what the actual offer was.
I actually talked to Friedman that summer right after the trade deadline
I saw him at McDintons in Tampa in August and I thanked him for not trading Niemann and Brignac for Bay and he leaned in and said that BOTH were never offered in a trade to the Pirates. While he didnt divulge what the best offer was, I got the impression it was Niemann OR Brignac plus one or more prospects

Doesn't really matter
One or the other still probably would have been better than what the Pirates actually got. But then again, probably good we didn’t make the trade. It’s not like we had a bunch of close games in the playoffs that would have been affected by having one better hitter.

I thought from the Pirates side
they wer holding out for Wade Davis instead of Niemann and the Rays wouldn’t go there.
It was on mlb.com that day
as Brignac and Neiman. Bill Chastain reported it, and I read it and then it dissappeared.
it was brignac and neimann
apparently it was a done deal but we backed out at the last minute (literally)
