TRADE TARGET: CRAIG BRESLOW
It is hard to pick a "glaring weakness" on a team that has the second best record in baseball and sits at 2.5 games out of first place as we head into August. I do feel secure in suggesting that a 2nd left hander in the pen would go a long way to providing more certainty to the back end of the bullpen. I suggest taking a look at Craig Breslow of the Oakland A's. The money wouldn't be an issue but dealing with Beane could be tedious.
What would it take to get Breslow? Who knows, but it may be worth the conversation. If the asking price is too high, should the Rays turn to Raffy Perez of the Cleveland Indians?

The Swindler!
As long as it’s nothing of value, I wouldn’t mind trading for Breslow or Perez but I’d rather go with the in-house option.
If John Jaso somehow strikes out, it means you didn’t do your job right as an umpire.

Swindle or Shouse?
No thanks—i like Raffy P.
He can be used against both RH and LH
Choate quickly becoming a scary option, either he gives up a hit or BB, and last night bringing in Balfour to face Bosch was a blow to his ego
Why is that? Bosch crushes lefties

I REALLY don't like the idea of calling up Swindle
Swindle is a great LOOGY, don’t get me wrong, but Maddon really has problems letting the LOOGY stay in for only one batter. He has a tendency to keep him in when a righty is up if there’s another lefty behind him, and Swindle turns every righty into Albert Pujols.

Swindle would be great for September
If they don’t want to waste a 25 man roster spot that’s one thing but DFA Thayer, let Swindle come up and use him or Choate exclusively for LHB in late innings so Maddon doesn’t have to hesitate to do it in the 6th or 7th with crucial ABs. Dude has given one homer to a LHB in his entire professional career.

So far as I know there's still two open spots on te 40-man roster.
And JP was never put on the 60-day DL.
DFA’ing Thayer shouldn’t be necessary.
I see where Brick’s coming from though.

A's Bites: Jayson Stark
Looks like A’s don’t have to trade Breslow and Billy will play hardball.
All A’s: Despite rumors that Oakland would talk about setup relievers Michael Wuertz, Craig Breslow and Brad Ziegler, assistant GM David Forst told Rumblings on Tuesday that “it would have to be an over-the-top deal for us to even consider it.” The A’s hold options on all their potential free agents except Justin Duchscherer and Ben Sheets. So they’re strongly contemplating “bringing back the same 25 guys next year,” Forst said. The A’s have played hard and played well despite all their injuries. And they believe a big finish could set the stage for better things next year, much the way it did in San Diego last year.
Breslow is signed through 2013
So A’s should be fair to demand a fairly high price. Especially when they dont have to deal him and with a shallow LHP market other than Downs or Ohman. The blue jays are demanding top prospects like jose iglesias for pending type A FA Downs.
I’m not sure what drays would give up. A’s like sean rodriguez last yr deadline in a potential wuertz angels deal which didnt happen
