Carl Crawford's Defensive Prowess
A recent post over at SBN's Lone Star Ball discusses corner outfield duos across MLB. During the discussion, the question of whether or not Carl Crawford would be able and/or willing to slide over and play CF was raised.
It was stated that Crawford last played CF in 2008, and that he wasn't all that hot during that stint. Of course, that was only seven innings worth of data. I contended that things looked better if you looked at Crawford's accumulated stats over his 409 total innings at the position, but 409 innings still isn't definitive when it comes to a player's defensive ability. Another LSB'er also said that they thought Crawford has stated that he woudn't switch positions.
As fans that watch Crawford game after game, and have probably seen him play CF, do you think he has the ability to play the position? And are there any reports or statements where Crawford has said he wouldn't switch?
This is all just curiousity on my part, and my apologies if something like this doesn't call for a FanPost here. But there is a lot of curiousity surrounding Crawford and his upcoming free agency. Thanks in advance.

Not enough dick jokes to be a fanpost over here
but its forgiven. Nothing has been brought up about it recently, it was really more of an issue when players like Gathright and Hollins were playing in center. It definitely was real, and not just conjecture on the fans’ part. I can’t find a quote or anything, but I’m assuming part of the reasoning is/was to save his knees which have taken quite a beating on the turf, but that is flimsy at best. Someone else might have a direct link, I just can’t find one, but anecdotaly, I remember him definitively being against leading off or playing center.

CC has mentioned that he hates playing CF at the Trop because the lights make it difficult for him to see fly balls and line drives.
Since he wouldn’t have that problem in other stadiums I’d imagine that he would consider playing CF when he becomes a FA. I’m sure he mentioned a willingness to consider CF during spring training this year as a FA, but I don’t remember 100% to be sure.

Disagree. As Dougie alluded to above, Craw said he was "ambushed" into playing CF in a game IN Seattle in 07 iirc.
The whole time he’s been here there are two things he won’t do: Play CF and hit leadoff

I know this is at least partially correct as well, but I think the comments I'm referring to are a bit older.
The Times archive search is pathetic though so I can’t find the articles for either.

He did mention something before the year about a willingness to shift over once he's with his new team.
I think he would be an above-average CF around +5 runs if he moved.
If we consider ourselves a master team then we have to act like a master team, not degenerates.
