Manny heading to the Angels?
I hope this isnt true, as Manny would be a nice fit for the Rays...
But while the signing may have helped solidify the Jays’ bullpen, it appears their chances of acquiring slugger Manny Ramirez have dissipated.
Ramirez is believed to be on the verge of signing a one-year deal with Anaheim, with the Angels having reportedly agreed to the deal.

The Angels won't sign Crawford, Beltre, or Soriano- but they sign Manny.
Jay's favorite line: "Dog, in due time"
Now he look at me, like "Damn, dog, you where I am"
A hip hop legend.
I think I died in an accident, cause this must be heaven.
Cool
They missed out on all their targets and to try and save the off season they sign a DH
Time for Napoli, Rivera and Abreu to play the field full time
But this works, I saw them signing Vlad, get him now Friedman!
Under construction
I would rather get Damon or Vlad than Manny.
this team is going to need some leadership and a positive veteran presence.
According to Topkin
Manny was nothing but a fall back option for us (but for the record, I don’t see this rumor about Manny signing anywhere else)
To fill out the roster, we want Fuentes over Rauch (I don’t know if I agree) and either Vlad as a full time DH or yet another platoon of Jones and Damon. I am already sick of all the platoons, just sign Vlad.
Under construction
One possible advantage of Jones and Damon is that
either can play LF in needed without the fear putting Vlad there would engender. It’s not that either is a great alternative, but they can probably do the job decently. Vlad limits the roster’s flexibility.
We ain't hurtin for fielders
Upton, Jennings, Joyce, Fuld, Zobrist, Rodriguez, Ruggiano – all these dudes can roam the outfield just fine.
How many cleanup hitters do we have?
I am not saying it is a critical advantage,
only that it is one point that may be considered. As for your list, Jennings may not begin the year on the major league roster, Ruggiano and Fuld are not likely to be considered viable offensive alternatives if there is a need to play them more than very occasionally and Rodriguez is likely bound for 2B in 2011, although it is true he can be used in the OF too. I don’t think any of them, including Zobrist, have the upside power of Jones, although I do think there is considerable risk with Andruw.
As for cleanup hitters, I would say Longoria is certainly a possibility and Joyce may suit that role as well. I also think, if we are perhaps overly optimistic, that Jones could manage it in some situations.
But again, I did not intend my comment to suggest there is a compelling reason to prefer Jones and Damon over Manny or Vlad. It is only to suggest one factor that might come into play.
understood
I just think the only real reason we don’t end up with either Manny or Vlad is if they want too much money, they don’t check out medically or if neither of them want to play for the Rays.
Gotta believe Andrew & Company would prefer one of those two if their demands aren’t outrageous and they’re interested in playing here. Would be nice to pencil them into the #4 spot of the lineup 140+ times this season.
I really hope they plug Longo in at fourth and leave him there.
Him batting with two outs and nobody on in the first isn’t as appealing as him leading off the second.

meh
Like Pujols in StL, I like opposing pitchers knowing they’ve got to face your best hitter in the 1st. I like it even better knowing if they pitch around him they’re facing Manny or Vlad next.
Plus, it’s not like Jaso/Zobrist aren’t good on base guys when we face RHP.
Great write up
http://theprocessreport.com/2011/01/17/batting-evan-longoria-fourth/
So I suppose if we get Manny/Vlad they should bat 3rd in your opinion?
And… you’d make same recommendation for StL to bat Pujols 4th instead of 3rd following the same logic?
His splits agree
Longoria was much more productive batting 4th last season than third by a wide margin. I would think with a high OBP guy like Zobrist (or Damon if signed) followed by a good hitting power bat behind him(Vlad/Branyan) behind him, Longoria will have the protection he needs. If not, the Rays offense will have serious problems, IMO.
.
Hell yeah it is.
Any amount of points can be scored week to week. well, besides 1 point. Any number is as likely to be reached as another, since there’s only one of each number, each has the same chance to be hit. IT’s how the syetemof averages works.

I have the feeling our stick may come from parts unknown
Freidman may have a sleeper pick up his sleeve. Would the Brewers move a bat?
Maybe Burrell has scared us away from a 30’s DH only type. You know Maddon likes his flexibilty and to get his guys rest on the Tampa turf.
Considering they already have to start Betancourt and Gomez this season
I would doubt it, who do you want from them? The obvious ones would never happen as we wouldn’t pay for a 3rd of Fielder and the Brewers wont be trading Braun anytime soon.
Under construction
Casey McGhee?
Just fishing here but…
Hit .288 .342 .470 in two seasons. He would look good at first base. They were 14th in the NL in ERA. Could they want a couple young arms?
They already added Greinke and Marcum.

Sounds like Sonny could complete that rotation very nicely
McGahee and Lucroy for Sonny sounds fair.

I'll believe it when I see it on MLBTR
Maddon's Mission
Make you want to kill him, then make you want to love him. Sly.

If this happened just this yesterday, I'd hate to imagine what happened last yesterday.
12-19-2010 - TAMPA, Fla.: The Detroit Lions erased some painful memories by ending the longest road losing streak in NFL history against YOUR Tampa Bay Succaneers.
Also, melanin makes people lazy.
