DRB WC #1: MLB Salary Cap?
As much as I hate to even think about or mention that the Tampa Bay area will eventually lose the Rays, I believe that unless there is a salary cap in the MLB, it will be inevitable. Sure the MLB has the Luxury Tax, but in all seriousness, that means absolutely nothing to most teams when it comes to spending the big bucks. The NFL, NBA, NHL, MLS all have a salary cap, it is time for the MLB to step up to the Players Union and convince them that it is in the best interest of their sport to implement a salary cap.
Some will argue that because of the Yankees huge payroll, they have won approximately a quarter of all the World Series, but I don't believe that the salary cap has that much to do with teams winning or not winning the World Series. My main argument for a salary cap is simply being able to keep the great players on smaller market teams instead of those teams just being a revolving door for great talent that will just leave when they get good enough to get paid more money. Obviously, the whole Crawford thing is what caused me to write this, sure I am bitter but I also know right now it is not preventable. I am looking into what is to come years down the road when those contracts of Longoria, Price, even the real youngsters such as Brigniac and Rodriguez come up and they decide they want bigger and better, in their wallet. I understand this is a part of baseball, and it has been for awhile, but how are the small market teams expected to make any type of run or build a solid foundation when year after year they just keep brining in the best, making them great, just to have them leave for more money? The way I look at the future for the Rays is that they already have enough trouble getting fans in the stands, whatever that reason may be, I know that the Rays fans of this generation are going to get a little tired of cheering for and spending money on a team that can't keep the players they love because of money. Sure, it's easy to say, if you fill the stands with fans every game and maybe you might have a shot at keeping a steady payroll, but how can we do that when we just watch all of our favorite players we have grown to love constantly leave?
The way athletes are getting paid these days is not how it has been in the past, and it will continue to incline. The best way for MLB and the players to keep baseball the greatest game in America, is to create an even playing field. It would not be an easy process, but I honestly think it would eventually create more fans in the ballparks and more income for EVERY team. It was so painful seeing Carl Crawford leave for the Red Sox, imagine what it will be like seeing Evan Longoria doing the same!?

Any amount of points can be scored week to week. well, besides 1 point. Any number is as likely to be reached as another, since there’s only one of each number, each has the same chance to be hit. IT’s how the syetemof averages works.

I'd ask you if you read this, but you might get brain damage, and I wouldn't want to wish that upon anyone, except for maybe Rays Index Blogger and noted author of this article Cork Gaines.

Look I haven't finished reading this, but I'm sure whoever this is worked really hard on it. Criticizing people will just make people with actual talent go back into their shells
I might not agree with the points mentioned within, but I will fight to the death for their right to say it.

No one denies that the league needs a salary cap, how are the Angels to be expected to win after signing Wells to that contract?

People with actual talent know how to write criticism without coming across as a total dick.
It’s kind of an essential skill for a serious writer to possess. Work on it.

Ok.
It’s poorly written. It presents several opinions as fact, doesn’t flow very well, and doesn’t transition properly between points because all of them are wrapped up in a single paragraph without explanation, factual details or supporting statistics. It ignores statistical analysis, which is a core attribute of the writing of this site. Also, while clear of spelling and grammatical errors, it’s not grammatically very clean due to containing unnecessary capitalization.
It’s not like the 2nd piece is much better, but it merely fails to be funny. This fails to be logical.

I fully understand that the writer put time into this and there were several good points, but I disagree with what the author was trying to say.
I'll tell you what made me stop reading this the first time. First sentence, 2nd paragraph.
Some will argue that because of the Yankees huge payroll, they have won approximately a quarter of all the World Series,
Who are these people? Do they post here? This is like me saying “some people think the Earth is flat.” Sure, some people believe this but they aren’t creditable or worth mentioning at all.
but I don’t believe that the salary cap has that much to do with teams winning or not winning the World Series.
What salary cap? There isn’t one now. I thought rephrasing it would help, but the entire premise requires more than a sentence to adequately articulate into something worth reading.
Harsh people!

My disagreements in the article
1. A salary cap would not prevent a potential relocation of the Rays. If the team moves, it’s because it doesn’t have the necessary financial support, not because there are teams spending larger totals. The salary cap leagues have all moved teams in recent years(compared to baseball) and will probably move more.
2. It doesn’t prevent star players from moving if they want to. It may slow it, but it will still happen. Players are going to go where they want to go. We just went through it this summer in the NBA & may soon again(ugh).
3. A salary cap will still be circumvented. Somehow the teams will find loophole. Whether it’s long-term deals, accepting less money or carefully wording contracts.
4. Letting teams do what they want is best for the sport. Putting rules on spending would hurt more than help. It would not change revenue streams so the Yankees still would be at a huge advantage or just become even richer. If you want to grow baseball, grow interest in the other teams, which has little to do with spending. NFL is king because football is king and people don’t care who is playing unlike baseball. MLB would be better served making other teams interesting to watch besides about 10.

Bring back the JUDGE JURY AND EXECUTIONER
As you can always expect come from behind victory is when you least expect it.
There will be a huge boom in baseballers suddenly owning real etsate under a salary cap.
And look out for a restaurant called “Longo’s” opening at a venue near you.
I can’t see it working as much as we would all want it to and how are the MLB going to police it? it is very easy to wrought the system through underhanded deals. Here in Australia the best football players either own real estate or pubs. Some have been investigated but there is enough loopholes in the law from anything ever happening about it.
The other thing to consider is do the MLB want to lose their cash cows in the richer clubs? They get the bums on seats because they win more often than not so will they really want to lose that? Plus there are merchandise and TV rights deals all which effect the landsacpe in the overall scheme of things. There is way too many things to consider before deciding whether capping would be a viable way to go.
As much as it would be great to see a more level playing field for all teams to compete equally, i doubt it will ever happen.
There's already a chain of grocers in Quebec called "Longo's"
Soon to be the next uprooted Rays fan displaced to Chicago?
