Was The Jason Bartlett Trade A Big Mistake?
Three Fanshots in a row? ... Oh, why not?
The Jason Bartlett trade, though maybe not the finest this organization has every made, was still a considerable success -- both for this season and future years.

Here's something you also didn't factor in for the Rays benefit
Bartlett would have been a FA after this year. But MLBTR has him as being below the Type-B FA level, meaning the Rays would’ve been left with nothing, instead they received the 4 players you mentioned. A bonus point for the FO.
I put the screw IN THE TUNA!
Fangraphs > teams > SS > advanced
Sometimes their data gets funky with the position eligibility and such, but I think 1.7 is accurate.

If you combine Srod, Briggys, and EJs WAR it comes out to 1.7, but a lot of Srods PAs didn't come as a SS.
I think if you were able to look at the production of only the times when those players were actually at SS the WAR would go down a decent amount.
Correct, Rays had 596 PA< 881 that FG is showing
Also SRod largely receving credit for 2B defense which is superior to his SS play. It would be considerably less.

Come back to DRB, we miss you!
I could care less about your graduate degree-I was a full professor at Harvard at 34 and am a full professor at Columbia now in a theoretical field whose main tool is statistical mechanics. So can can come down from your high place.

Haha, I'm still around, just focusing on SBN TB for a little while.

There's a thing called the "reader's license," and I am choosing to invoke it here.

Just wondering how many games we win in '11 w/Barty at SS
But we wouldn’t have the scary arms of Ramos, Gomes or Russell

Doesn't really matter because we made the playoffs.
Plus, Gomes kinda established himself with his performance.

Probably wouldn't have had Farnsworth then, I leave that up to you to decide the impact

With Bartlett on our 2011 team, we will still be playing.
Great season, but opportunity lost for a greater end result
Well, either Fansworth or Damon or both would not have been here if Bartlett's salary wasn't sent away
So where would we be then?

good point but for every ALCS & WS game we hosted in 2008, the firm cleared over $ 1mm per.
enough to cover them all.
That is horrible logic

Brandon Gomes alone is worth the trade
anything extra in the future we get out of the other 3 is just a bonus.
