The Legend Sam Fuld: A Look Back
It is sweet poetry to watch Sam Fuld as a member of the Cubs robbing Manny of a homer since it was Manny's failed drug test that gave Fuld the opportunity and thus the legend to be born.
It wasn't long before Manny's time ended in Tampa Bay thanks to another positive drug test. Johnny Damon moved out of left field to DH and Joe Maddon turned to Sam Fuld to take on a lion share of the duties in left field.
Fuld had already shown flashes of defensive greatness early in the 2011 campaign but his bat was the biggest surprise early on as he posted a slash line of .350/.411/.525 in his first 21 games. Fuld struggled with the bat over the remainder of the season hitting .202/.278/.303 over his final 256 plate appearances. While Fuld didn't consistently produce with the bat he did continue to produce and provide the spectacular plays in the outfield.
As it is now the offseason, let's take a quick look back on some of the plays (mostly defensive). What was your favorite Sam Fuld play (offensive or defensive) or #legendofsamfuldtweet during the season?
For me, my favorite play was walk off play against the Royals as the victory renewed hope that the Rays may have a miracle run in them.

he has the best turn and throw
He has that ability to field, turn, and unload with tremendous accuracy. He is good at this whether his momentum is carrying him to the left-centerfield gap or down the left field line. He seldom appears off-balanced when making his throws.
Exactly what I was referring to..

thought you meant the quick release
and boy does he have that. He doesn’t do that glove tap or a huge wind up.
Also like the 20 out of 28 in stolen bases, 4 for 4 in sacrifice bunts, and 6 for 15 as a pinch hitter.
Guy brings a nice skill set to be our fifth outfielder next year.
