Kurt Suzuki, anyone?
He's no Brian McCCann but I gotta think hes better than anyone on the FA market, I wont complain about Ramon Hernendez either. I love Gio Gonzalez but we don't need a SP.
The Oakland Athletics are in a holding pattern as they await word from Major League Baseball on whether they can relocate to San Jose.
But whatever happens, they again figure to go young.
That likely means parting with 30-something free agents such as outfielders Coco Crisp, Josh Willingham and David DeJesus.
It also means being open to trade offers for anyone on the roster with the exception of second baseman Jemile Weeks, according to major-league sources.
The A’s aren’t shopping any of their players, sources say. But they will listen on pitchers such as left-hander Gio Gonzalez and righty Trevor Cahill, both of whom could be in demand in a thin market for starters. Catcher Kurt Suzuki also could be in play.
Commissioner Bud Selig appointed a three-member panel to study the possibility of the A’s relocating to San Jose in March 2009. If baseball permits the move, the A’s would seek to build a contender to coincide with the opening of a new park. Construction probably would take three years.
Gonzalez, entering his first year of arbitration, would be a free agent by then. Cahill is signed through 2015 with options for ’16 and ’17, but the A’s might prefer to maximize his value by trading him for several younger players who would peak when the new park opened.
If baseball declines permission for the A’s to move – or continues to delay its decision – the team could a similar strip-down strategy, citing its poor revenues in Oakland, sources say.

I wanted to add
He had an off year in 2011 but that’s because he played basically every day, Rays would give him his rest.
Under construction
We have lots of prospects
Try to get him and Balfour, turn that pen into a strength again.

The player I would be interested in is Daric Barton.
If it comes down to having to re-sign Kotchman(that may be their only option at first base if nothing else pans out this winter) for 4-5 million a year for 2 years, I would much rather trade for Barton who would give similar offensive numbers with better defense and would only cost 1.5 million next season(in arbitration) with three more years under control. Another guy who draws as many walks as KO’s and gets on base. If a power bat is not going to be found this winter, I would look to add as many high on base guys as possible who also play good defense to this team…Punto, Ryan Hanigan, Barton.
.Coming off an injury plagued year, I think he could be available for not a whole lot.
I'd rather pursue Chris Ianetta, but if the price is right, Suzuki might be worth a look too.

I don't know...
a .208/.338/.369 slash away from Coors for his career and just an average defensive catcher, isn’t that impressive. Owed 3.5 million next season doesn’t help. I might rather stick with re-signing Shoppach for 1.5 million and obtain Ryan Hanigan from the Reds(1.2 next year and 2 million in 2013) for the same amount of salary.
Working it out with the Angels
I keep imagining some Morales/Conger or Trumbo/Mathis trade

Neither would happen
They wouldn’t trade Trumbo (Mathis’s bat is less scary than Jaso’s) and then there is Morales, if he is finally back, do the Rays risk it? They take risks with players who have underperformed, the Pena’s and Farnsworth’s of the world but I don’t know about a guy who has basically missed 2 years.

Geovany Soto?
Cubs might possibly dangle him via trade for pitching help. Perhaps a Davis for Soto swap would do the trick.
