Andrew Friedman Presser
Andrew Friedman answers questions during the pre-Winter meeting press conference. He doesn't mention the Astros but does discuss some of the Rays offseason plans. Won't be long until the winter meetings are in full swing and some of the Rays depth chart comes into focus.
C-1b-ss-DH and whether the Rays deal a starting pitcher to fill a hole. It will be fun to see what moves other teams make that may affect the Rays. (Fielder to Seattle for instance).

Whoops
Well, it’s ok, I am sure people were going to ignore my fanshot anyway.
Quickly, I’ll rewrite what I said in my fanshot in here. What I want Friedman to do.
He claims he’s going for it 2012, would only trade a SP for a major league, not more minor leaguers so…
- Gonna go for it then go for it, let Moore start in the rotation all season
- Trade Neimann or Davis for a 1B (Morrison or Yonder as we have all said 500 times by now would be the best, and then, a distant 3rd for me, Smoak)
- Resign Damon
- Do not trade Upton, we need to improve the offense, not hurt it.
- Unless you find a steal, the pen might be fine with these 7: Farnsworth, Peralta, McGee, Gomes, Lueke, Torres and Matt Bush
Under construction
sorry Joey
Didn’t see your fanshot….they are still below the fold so to speak.
Thanks for getting the Fanshot up right away at any rate. We appreciate all Fanshots and Fanposts and apologize for missing it.
I agree with a lot of things, joey
Bullpen: there very may be another steal, like how Peralta fell into our laps for $925K. Can’t have too many bullpen options.
Upton: based on past inaction, i would assume Friedman and crew will hold on to Upton until a very decent offer comes along. can we assume BJ replicates the second half of 2011 in 2012? front office might think so.
1B: Yonder top priority in my book, no reason not to make that trade if it’s out there. Morrison also has incredible production. I’m not totally on the Smoak bus yet.
DH: if Damon is the clubhouse guy everyone says he is, he might be the best option. Unless we can sign Aramis Ramirez for a 1yr / 8 mil, Damon is our guy.
On 1b options, dont forget Duda.
I want him more than Alonso. For me it’s Lomo, Duda, Alonso
No matter how much they are hyped, my teams always find a way to disappoint.

I think these sorts of things, where you post a link and a few comments on it, should be posted as fanshots anyways. Funposts are for your own commentary.

I agree with most of what you said.
I hope we can add another arm to the bullpen. It’s really interesting that we contacted Cordero and we pursued Broxton. Luis Ayala seems like a good option to me, he should be Cruz’s replacement, and possibly an upgrade from that. I’d be glad if we aquired one of those young 1B, LoMo, Alonso, Smoak, Duda, Blanks, in that order. Damon seems like he should be coming back, and hopefully Guyer can make the team to get some at-bats against lefties for Damon and Joyce. And if Upton is going to have a breakout year, this is the year to do it.

I'm still rooting for a Wuertz signing
typically a guy who doesn’t have split issues, and excellent GB rates.

I'd love to see a Wuertz signing, but not a major league deal.
If Wuertz is the only notable reliever the Rays sign this offseason then I think Bush has the best shot at making the team over Wuertz. The only concern about Wuertz is that he throws a lot of sliders, and those sliders are taking care of his arm.

Friedman discussed the possibilty of a bench player
What do you think of a Maicer Izturis? You know, to replace the dead weight of Elliot Johnson. I can’t see how that’s not an upgrade. The only plus I saw all year in Elliot’s game was his arm.
Under construction
I wonder why Topkin even mentions how we scouted Cespedes
I’m sure someone scouted Darvish also. We aren’t going to sign either one and everyone knows that.

Forget that stupid fake sounding name
The pitcher once known as Leo Nunez is going to be waived any day now, you needed a strong stomach when he was closing games but I remember him being pretty nasty as a MR/SU guy, anyone else interested?

Are we allowed to make jokes again?
Am I the only one flagging this guy?
Seriously, do we have to wait for the money shot or a "F*** THE SOXXXXXX!" before we ban him? Doubleteapot… BAN HIM!!

I still have Ayala 1st on my list, but I like the idea.
What about David Aardsma as a buy low low low guy. He had 2 pretty good years and missed last year. Could he be a minor league signing?
