Chicago Cubs Sign Andy Sonnanstine
According to Jon Heyman.
Honestly, as a dual Rays/Cubs fan, I could not be happier. Sonny had no place left in the deep, deep Rays system, but with a rebuilding Chicago Cubs, he'll have a decent shot at making 5th starter sometime in the 2012 season.

Yowzers
I like this signing
if he can turn into a nice #3-#5 starter by midseason, it could turn into a nice haul at the trade deadline

yeah but he could actually do that in the NL. Especially with no more Poopholes

This is an okay signing for a team like the cubs who Theo said himself have terrible pitching depth
throughout their orginization. Sonny really couldn’t get anybody out wherever he pitched last year whether it was for the Rays or with Durham. I liked Sonny and I hope he finds success pitching in the NL.
Too bad Pujols and Fielder are not in the NL Central anymore
Would have enjoyed watching those moon shots off Sonny.
Good for Sonny, not for Ben
Somewhere Ben Francisco is crying. The Sonnanstine tormenter found his way into the AL east with the Jays. Now this. I guess hes hoping for interleague now!
That would be cool if they good bring in Kazmir
Theo would have the three Rays pitchers who pitched games 2, 3, 4, 5 and 7 of the 2008 ALCS on his team. Very Steinbrennerish of Theo.
Interesting work from Theo so far
Didn’t try to resign Ramirez
Replaced him with Ian Stewart
Traded Sean Marshall for Travis Wood (this one MIGHT work out but Wood was very far from impressive last year)
Signed Andy Sonnanstine
But I shouldn’t rip him too much, they are the main competition for Rizzo.
Under construction
Padres might keep Rizzo for another year
until they find out how Alonso works out in 2012
Maybe
But Byrnes didn’t even deny he may trade Rizzo and you know he wants to be dealt with yet another young 1B blocking him.
Under construction
I'll take what Byrnes says to the media with a grain of salt
Rizzo’s only 22 and still needs work in the minors. I could see Beckham being offered if he impresses at AAA this year. Of course the Rays are only trading Beckham if they are sure on Lee.
Short of Brett Jackson, who do the Cubs have to give up for Rizzo?

As a Cubs fan, I've been thrilled so far with Epstein's work.
He fully recognizes the toilet bowl he is working with. The 2012 Cubs are not competitive, and unless he fully dives into that truth, the 2013 Cubs will be terrible also.
Also, he’s made defense a priority — signing David DeJesus (who should still be with the team when they have a shot in 2013 or 2014) and getting Ian Stewart.
His moves have been small and simple and largely in an effort to shore up their abominable defense and impoverished pitching depth, but they have been solid moves nonetheless — small, smart moves like the Jose Molina signing is to the Rays. The difference being, of course, that the Rays’ addition of Molina means much more because they already in a terribly competitive position.

I'd be thrilled so far with all of Not Jim Hendry's work too.
