I'm done with rosterbation
Now, I just wanted to get everyone's thoughts in one thread.
I see a good amount of moves coming in Friedman's favorite month, January. An extension or 2, a trade or 2, a signing or 2 and so on.
Targets that I can think of will follow. Please add on who you would want and any new additions and later on, I will see how we did on our targets.
(in no particular order)
1B: Anthony Rizzo, Mark Trumbo, Kendry Morales, Carlos Pena, Brett Pill, Logan Morrison
Fall Back: Casey Kotchman and the Desperation Pick for me: Derek Lee
DH: Anyone from 1B, possibly Matt Joyce and Brandon Guyer gets a chance, Johnny Damon, Luke Scott
Fall Back: Jorge Posada, pretty much anyone not too exciting but can still hit
RP: Might not be neccesary but: Joel Zumaya, Andrew Bailey, Luis Ayala, Joakim Soria, Greg Holland
Fall Back: 6 spots are basically taken, sign no one and make the 7th spot a competition of Leuke, Ramos, Bush, De La Rosa, maybe one of the starters.
Extensions:
Likely: Matt Joyce
Hopefuls: Desmond Jennings, Jeremy Hellickson and David Price

I dont see us adding anything of note to the Bullpen
Maybe the odd PT invite or low key signing.
I think we will see Damon back and Davis for Rizzo type move.
I still ike Andruw Jones too.
Add to that, good old Gomes
Brought him up last year but i think he may be an option. Bill James puts Gomes and Damon both at .332 in wOBA for 2012. Their 2011 WAR was exactly the same, 1.5.
Considering we could probably get Gomes on a 1/1 deal as a 31 year old compared with an aging, more expensive Damon I wouldnt be against the move.

There's a reason for that
Age & repeating a level. Minor league free agent material, at best

Lueke should easily be breaking camp with the Rays in the bullpen.
What could be better than Dan Johnson

I think he'll perform so well in ST that he'll force his way onto the team whether they like it or not.

Will be interesting to see where Howell ends up
Are they paying him too much for him to be in Durham?
Mets and Dodgers
Duda, Ike and Murphy could be in play from the Metro’s.
Jerry Sands is a power hitter who would fit as a DH, sub OF and Ist basemen.
stop talking about andrew bailey, it's not anyone's pipe dream, it's just moronic.

it was a pipe dream the first few times I mentioned him
I believe their interest is real.
Matt Moore. That is all.

Not too interested.
Rather have Smoak if he’s available. Hoping the M’s get Fielder somehow.
This guy’s only shown any real power at A+ in 2010. Dropped off dramatically in AA last season.

Oh I forgot Matt Adams from the Cards
He’s blocked and he seems to be a beast at the plate.
Matt Moore. That is all.
Yeah, I'd rather go for Adams, but there's some questions about his defense.

Vlad
How about a 37yr. old Vladimir Guerrero, hit .290 with 13hr and 163 hits for the DH spot. The Rays could get him for 5mil or less.
For DH
Matt Murton still hasn’t signed anywhere. He says he’s happy in Japan and wants to stay with Hanshin, but last I checked, he still didn’t have a contract, and it’s not like they’re paying him a boatload. An offer in the 2/7 range I’m guessing would be enough to get him to change his mind (I believe he made about $4.5 last year, but the taxes in Japan are so much higher than it probably offsets).
Best case scenario, and he has significantly improved since he was over here – after all, he broke Japan’s hits record while over there and has really mashed in a couple of seasons where offense in the NPB was depressed overall. Worst case scenario, and he’s still a lefty masher who can play outfield if needed.

And honestly
Even if he hits like he did the last time he was in the majors, he’s pretty similar to what we got out of Damon last year, only cheaper.

I'm a pretty big fan of Murton and we could always use more ginger power
but I’d like to have a platoon partner lined up to help him out and or a back-up plan in place.
