Baseball’s new labor deal is great for small-market teams. Why is everyone saying the opposite? The article gives some labor history, explains some viewpoints against the labor deal, and reaches the conclusion that small market teams that had been spending on draft picks were taking advantage of a market inefficiency similar to OBP (Moneyball). The author concludes that this market inefficiency would soon come to a natural end and the new labor deal will enable teams to draft top amateur talent while knowing they can afford them. Very interesting article and h/t to Erik Hahmann for Tweeting it tonight.
