As I predicted, my bracket went to shit in the round of 32. Thanks Pittsburgh, and the rest of the Big Least.

Its safe to say I’m never picking a Big East team again.
@dobbertweets
I'm honestly not even sure why I picked Pitt since they've been a bust for the last few years.
UCONN still has a chance. Marquette won’t do shit. I really hope Richmond or VCU makes it to the Final Four. That will be the only reason I watch now

They need to lose. If they make the final four, it's going to be Tebow all over again.
I mean, Jimmer Fredette is literally JJ Reddick. The last thing we need to see is him getting drafted with a high 1st round pick.

As I stated in the previous OTTOTD, the Big East is constantly overrated
The best conference, but constantly overrated. But then again, I fell into the trap of actually listening to bracketology.
Go Gators!!
I got crushed on the first Thursday, but I'm liking my bracket at this point
I still have all my final 4 teams at least. Which is really all that matters.
In our bracket I have sdsu and in my others I have uconn, so that’ll put a dent into one of my brackets. Definitely rooting for sdsu.
Basically I think I’ll be making a decent move up in the standings relatively soon.
Go Gators!!
I knew this was the worst I've ever done on one of these, but now I'm just embarrassed.
My only saving grace is that all of my Final 4 teams are still alive. Granted, I’m sure they’ll all lose their next game but it’s as much of a silver lining as I can find.

I escaped from AT&T to T-Mo because it was the only one left that used SIM cards so I could use it on my unlocked iPhone.
That’ll probably end in 12 months, AT&T has a way of telling if the phone connected to the SIM is an iPhone. So I’ll be forced to pay their iPhone wallet raper plan.

FSU is really underrated
They are playing incredible defense, hitting 3’s and they didnt even need Singleton last night.
WHERE'S MY BOURBON?!
They play incredible D, but they usually don't hit any shots
When the shots are falling thenwatch out. I doubt they shoot as well as they did last night again.
They can definitely make it to the elite 8 though because VCU is as easy of a matchup as there is in the sweet sixteen.
I can’t see them beating Kansas though

Kansas is overrated.
Self is not a big game coach and I just think they are going to disappoint again. Richmond could upset them easily.

To be fair, regardless of sport, Pittsburg always loses more on coaching ability than on talent.

Texas lost direcly because of coaching
I dont know what they called a timeout, forcing them to make a tough inbound. They could have let AZ foul them, but the coach most likely told his guys to call a TO if they got the board. This lead to the 5second turnover and they lost.
WHERE'S MY BOURBON?!
No way
Butler is a very talented team.
Coaching ability doesn’t have a huge effect on games. Talent is everything.
I'm an F18, Bro
It seems they always have a talented team without having any highly regarded talented players.
It seems the sum is usually greater than the parts at Butler.

So I went to b-ref, and here’s a list of Duke players that entered the league since 1999:
Avery, William 1999
Battier, Shane 2001
Boozer, Carlos 2002
Brand, Elton 1999
Deng, Luol 2004
Duhon, Chris 2004
Dunleavy, Mike 2002
Ewing, Daniel 2005
Jones, Dahntay 2003
Langdon, Trajan 1999
Maggette, Corey 1999
McRoberts, Josh 2007
Nelson, DeMarcus 2008
Randolph, Shavlik 2005
Redick, J.J. 2006
Williams, Jay 2002
Williams, Shelden 2006
UNC:
Felton, Raymond 2005
Forte, Joseph 2001
Haywood, Brendan 2001
May, Sean 2005
McCants, Rashad 2005
Noel, David 2006
Williams, Jawad 2008
Williams, Marvin 2005
Wright, Brandan 2007
It seems like it’s neglecting after 2008, though for whatever reason, so add those guys too.
4real
8 duke and 10 UNC players drafted in the first round since 2001 for the two teams. Really, really close.

So many Cuse fans hate Boeheim's style calling it stubborn and inflexible, but my argument is that where he shines
is in practice where he molds these guys to play the game his way. If they execute what they are trained then there is no reason to adapt as they can beat any team no matter how good or bad.

This year's bracket is insane.
I agree with the fraud charges on the Big East. My one boss who watches NO basketball and doesn’t know anything about sports is in the 99.1 percentile. Craziness. It’s like he just picked based on which jersey was prettier. I don’t know….
Speaking of FSU
They have had to get the worst tournament times possible.
10pm on a Sunday night.
Now they play at 10pm on Friday night opposite Ohio St-Kentucky.
No one but FSU and VCU fans are going to be watching that game.

We then microwave that energy to not only distribution centers near Major US cities, but also world wide, making it so that we no longer need oil and can nuke the fuck out of the middle east and anyone else that wanna fuck with Hollywood Cole

But yeah, I love it. It’s a major city that doesn’t feel unwieldingly massive. Lots of green space, (free) cultural amenities, and good public transit.

The weather was great. Clear skies and no colder than mid-30's at night/no warmer than high-50's during the day.
Did all the usual monuments, pub quizzes, and such. Only made it through Foggy Bottom/GWU once. Nice area. It looked like they were almost finished building a lot of new apartments. Looked like a cool place to live.
The Metro is about perfect. I’m so jealous we don’t have one in Tampa (yet).

Foggy Bottom is well-located.
It’s a little lacking for activity on the weekends because of all the office buildings located on the east side of campus, but Dupont, Georgetown, and Downtown are only a twenty minute walk each, so it’s really nice. At least you feel like you’re a part of the city being there, unlike at AU and Georgetown.
The Avenue looks like a neat development. I think some of the office component to it has already opened, but I think the residential and retail will come online in May. IIRC, there is a Whole Foods, Sweetgreen, and some burger place going into the retail space, so it should be a good activity center. I just wish that a second entrance to the Foggy Bottom station had been incorporated into the project, because it’s the busiest single-entrance station in the system and it gets crushed at peak times.
Metro is a really cool asset. It gets derided a lot, often for good reasons, but the area is much better for having it. I can’t imagine living without it.

But overall, everything is really dense.
I’ve been trying to figure out whether that comes with time or with population or both. I read something the other day about how the greater Tampa area has reached it’s limit as far as urban sprawl. Some Urban Planning professor was saying that most cities branch out only within a certain radius then turn inward and Tampa is at that limit.

What's the best place to live out of Chicago, Boston, and WPB?
in terms of how cost of living actually relates to standards of living, things to do, etc.
Well obviously Chicago and Boston are going to have a lot more to do then WPB
but WPB is going to be the cheapest
I'm an F18, Bro
West Palm Beach itself is a really wealthy city.
I’m not so sure that living in the city itself is that much cheaper.

I wouldn't be living in WPB, but probably closer to where I'm currently at which is about 20 mins north.
where the Marlins and Cardinals have their spring training facilities
Jupiter is probably significantly cheaper.
It and everything north of it in St. Lucie County got hit hard by the housing bust. I was at that ST complex a couple of years ago, and it was remarkable how desolate the town center-like development next to it was.

yeah, we all call Abacoa the grand failure of urban planning.
the only things that succeed there are bars, and I’ve watched many establishments come and go here over the past few years. Kind of depressing, but the soccer moms and yuppies that decide what goes and what stays have done some serious damage to what could have been. It was originally supposed to have a grocery store (publix?) on the inside…dunno how that would have worked. And the apartments should be cheaper to be able to support low-middle income families. As is, those rents in the towncenter aren’t terrible but are still pretty high considering said bust.

They didn't break the no-fly zone rule, so your point is invalid.
But, I never claimed it wouldn’t make a difference, reading comprehension fail.
by ballsdeep187 on Mar 21, 2011 1:55 PM EDT up reply actions
Sorry I took this as meaning the no-fly zone wouldn't do anything.
It’s not just air support. It’s tanks, and mortars, and a stronger force overall.
A few weeks ago, you were talking about how the two sides were on an equal playing field.
Which wasn’t the case at all. Gaddafi just hadn’t pulled out all the stops until a few days ago, and when he did, he crushed the rebels, so the UN (finally) placed the no-fly zone down on him. Which he didn’t break. but he was attacked anyways, because he refused to stand down, and even if he was “allowed” to fly his planes. not one of them was ever going to leave the ground once France moved in.
Did placing the no-fly zone on them save us some money on the production of tomahawk missiles, yes, but please, don’t sit here and act like those planes were just going to be allowed to fly around and attack us, or any other allied force.
by ballsdeep187 on Mar 21, 2011 2:39 PM EDT up reply actions
If I said they were equal, I misspoke. But it was certainly not as lopsided as you were describing.
Where do I say that Gaddafi’s forces would be allowed to attack us? I don’t say anything close to resembling that in any post I’ve made. Talk about reading comprehension fail.
So, you're saying he was just going to bomb his cities and somehow ignore France's jets, our bombers, and our cruise missiles?
I just assumed that if his planes were still allowed to fly, they would be forced into fights with the allies. You might not have said that, but that’s the only other outcome. Unless you claim the no-fly zone caused him to retreat, which it didn’t.
The rebels were using beds as barricades. Gaddafi has tanks, planes, ships, any and all weaponry. I’m not sure what you have been reading, but these rebels are using handmade grenades, and molotov cocktails. Gaddafi just waited to show his hand, hoping he could keep the UN out of it. The no-fly zone was just a diplomatic way to get us in the door. Gaddafi could have easily won without ever having a plane leave the ground.
by ballsdeep187 on Mar 21, 2011 3:21 PM EDT up reply actions
I don't understand what you're saying about the no-fly zone. Did you not expect airstrips and planes to be bombed? We knew there would be some military action to ground Gaddafi's air force.
You also left out the part where a number of his commanders have defected and arms warehouses have been taken over by rebel forces. I’m sure some are using improvised weapons but a much larger segment are well armed.
mortar and tank attacks > machine guns.
Gaddafi played this about as well as he could have. He waited till Japan to really make his move. While the world was focused on Japan, he sent tanks out to the “strongholds” of the rebels and tore right through them. Then he used his planes to destroy weapons caches and whatnot. After that, the UN is like, “oh shit, this guy will win unless we do something.” So the finally placed a no-fly zone on him, and he’s like, “okay, sure, I wont bomb them anymore”, but he proved that he didn’t really need the planes and continued to push forward with his tank and mortar teams. So then Hills makes a few appearances saying “retreat or else” and then boom, the military personal that we “don’t have” is destroying everything in sight.
Right, the airfields were bombed, so the no-fly zone never really mattered. It was just red tape.
by ballsdeep187 on Mar 21, 2011 3:53 PM EDT up reply actions
"Right, the airfields were bombed, so the no-fly zone never really mattered. It was just red tape."
How do you establish a no-fly zone? By removing the capability to launch aerial attacks. And the hyperbole is a little over the top (“tore right through them”).
A no-fly zones means, if you fly planes here, they will be shot down.
Not, we will end your ability to fly planes, period. He didn’t fly planes after it was placed on him, but the country was still invaded, therefore it never really mattered.

I never knew SRQ was a closet O's fan
Rays manager Joe Maddon summoned security to remove a fan – wearing an Orioles jersey – who he said was yelling racist comments at CF B.J. Upton in the dugout duing Sunday’s game at Charlotte Sports Park.
"He said something racial and I didn’t like it,’’ Maddon said. "He can say whatever he wants, but don’t go there. And I didn’t want B.J. to go up into the stands or do anything at that point. So I just wanted to make sure he was taken out of there. There is no room for that at all.’’
A man who said he was the ejected fan went on Twitter later Sunday, claiming Maddon lied and he said nothing racial.
Maddon later told the Times what was said, and it would be considered racial. Upton also heard the commens, as did several of the coaches.

What's the chances of me having gained weight if I ate nothing but:
Taco Bell, Five Guys, Wendys, Burger King, McDonalds, KFC, Pizza Hut, Papa Johns, Chikfila, and Arby’s.
These places consisted of my nutritional intake for the last 8-10 days. Keep in mind that I would eat nothing all day and then come home to eat this, so it was all I was eating all day. I’m kind of scared to weigh myself.

I think Chirinos won't be an option in the clubs mind til the 2nd half (AAA experience)
At that point its likely a hitting contest between the two. Using Sandrews work from last week, SRod is less appealing than all other options.

[Comment From Sandy Kazmir]
Are you at all concerned about Adam Russell’s walk numbers? In limited viewing thus far, but backed up by his career numbers, it seems he has trouble locating the zone most of the time.
1:30
Jonah Keri: Sure, and anyone as big as he is (listed at 6’8", 255) will always be challenged to keep his mechanics in perfect order, etc. I’m not saying Adam Russell is the next Mariano Rivera. I’m saying since nobody in the known universe is touting this guy, and since only hard-core maniacs have even heard of him, he has some intriguing upside.

Anyone have any information on Russell's spring training velocity?
Maddon seemed to indicate it was not in the mid 90s like he expected.
@ptSuttery
I could maybe find out, but no, hadn't heard anything out of the usual about him.
by R.J. Anderson on Mar 21, 2011 1:54 PM EDT up reply actions
I just find the loss in velocity more disturbing than the inability to find the strike zone.
@ptSuttery
Yes, that would be concerning.
Missing the zone in spring, whatever. Davis almost had as many walks as strikeouts last spring. Not concerning given the nature of the beast. Working on things, etc.
by R.J. Anderson on Mar 21, 2011 1:57 PM EDT up reply actions
Right, and sometimes big guys just get lost for a while. It happens.
Going from mid 90s to high 80s, though.. It could just be a side effect of his mechanical inconsistencies. Or he could be on the verge of breaking down. Lemme see if I can dig up Maddon’s quote.
@ptSuttery
It isn't specific, but this is from Topkin's article today:
“We’ve got to get him straightened out,” manager Joe Maddon said. “I don’t have any good answers right now.”
Maddon said several areas need to be addressed as Russell’s velocity isn’t consistently in the mid 90s as expected.
“When a guy struggles a bit, normally your confidence takes a hit a little bit,” he said. “With that, mechanically, I think he’s off.”
@ptSuttery
Guessing he's low-90s or skipping up and down pitch-to-pitch.
If he were in the 80s or consistently lower than expected I would think we would be hearing about a meeting with Dr. James Andrews.
by R.J. Anderson on Mar 21, 2011 2:01 PM EDT up reply actions
But also, I think he should.
He’s got the stuff to get folks out right now. Obviously you’d like to get his mechanics ironed out, but he’s a huge guy in his third org in four seasons, that may take a while.

Sorry owners, this isn't how the concept of revenues works:
The NFL has repeatedly said that 70 percent of extra revenue went to players, a main justification for changing the sport’s economic system. The league’s numbers remove the portion of revenues — about $1 billion a year — taken off the top for owners to spend on expenses.

Last year was as fluky as Bartlett's 2010
I don’t believe at his age he lost the ability to hit a baseball. I don’t have .360 expectations, but I think he can be a lg avg bat which is less than stellar for 1b, but with his glove makes for acceptable filler.

If our team was constructed definitely and his talents were different I'd be fine with him.
If he hit lefties well (and was right-handed) or could play some other spots, I think it would be fine.

Listen, take this advice from an 18 y/o college kid.
Jorts are for douchebags. I don’t think I see many people wearing them around campus and when they do they’re usually rocking the avaiators and wear skinny jeans when they aren’t wearing their jorts.
Plaid shorts are fine but to a certain extent. You don’t want some flamboyant fucking design or colors on them. Keep it simple like a white/blue mixture. Only problem with plaid shorts is that you have to wear solid colored shirt to match with them.
Cargo shorts are the most common from what I can tell. They’re sort of frat-boyish, but they’re fine.
Personally, I prefer khaki shorts. As long as they aren’t too short (hang right at the knee or above it), they’re pretty badass. Wear these and you’ll be a pimp.
If you’re buff and want to let everyone know that you workout err day, wear some gym shorts accompanied with a plain colored t-shirt. Usually you’ll see these dudes wearing a Tapout hat, as well.

I hesitate to give an opinion on this. Not everyone should wear shorts.
In general, though, I agree with DaPriceIsRight. However, some people should not wear shorts at all. I am of the opinion that jorts or jutoffs on men are never okay and should get the wearer a one way ticket to a trailer park where they will need to live the rest of their life.
