I'm working on a Fangraphs piece concerning James Shields. I figured I would share this little extra.
Apparently the Rays lead the league getting innings out their starters, edging out the Phillies by 0.2% of an inning.
UPDATE: Here's the piece on Shields.

Thats really amazing
A) Given the quality of the Phillies much-heralded staff
B) Facing DH’s vs Pitchers

I think that'd be pretty interesting, personally.
Seems like we have guys that consistently go to 110-115 pitches and sometimes more. Speaks to the type of guys we have (conditioning and overall ability to be effective even after throwing so many pitches).

Here ya go
http://www.fangraphs.com/teams.aspx?pos=all&stats=sta&lg=all&type=2&season=2011&month=0&season1=2011 It’s not per start but it’s all pitches by starters by team, Rays trail only the Angels

I'm a little surprised how close it is.
Granted, the Rays are a whole pitch and a third away from the Chicago Cubs this year, but I’d expect the range to be 5 or 6 pitches, not less than 2.
Maybe there’s some bias inherent into this — such as big-pitch innings (25+) don’t happen too often because the manager gets a reliever out there. I’m not sure.
