According to Jerry Crasnick the Rays' top prospect, and the best pitching prospect in baseball, Matt Moore will join the team on Monday.
The Rays moved within 3.5 games of the Red Sox on Sunday and apparently are going all in on one last push for the playoffs. They play three games against the Orioles and four against the Red Sox this week before starting a series with the Yankees that includes a double header. It's likely that Moore will get the start in one game of the double header and will be used out of the bullpen until that time.
Moore has dominated at every professional level, winning the Southern League player of the year award and putting up a 1.37 ERA / 2.02 FIP and a 13.50 K/9 in 52.2 innings at Triple-A Durham to close out the season. With apologies to Jeremy Hellickson, this is the most exciting call-up the Rays have had since David Price made his debut in 2008.
