This should probably have some snarky reference to the events of September 11th, 2001 --- a day which will live in infamy. The day that I quit the police force.
But, instead, I want to talk about American Werewolf in London.
John Landis may be a flippant dick responsible for the deaths of one Hollywood legend and two young children, but holy shit is that a good movie.
Also, R. Budd Dwyer anyone? How much blood does the human head have anyway? 2-3 liters? Stop bleeding everywhere, Budd, you're gonna ruin the carpet. WE GET IT. YOU DID SOMETHING ILLEGAL. You don't have to spew it.
Also, the Football Rays are pretty terrible. Granted, I watched 5 minutes of the game. Once I saw Michael Bennett as the starting right end, I didn't really need to pay attention.

Really conservative gameplan led to them getting nothing going until the Lions started playing back. I was watching with my cuz who’s a big Packers fan. When Freezy escaped the pocket and shoveled that ball out left handed we just looked at each other and laughed, because it was such a classic Favre play.

No Freezy showed his young tiger stripes. That 4th and a foot late in the game, if it's Tom Brady or another veteran QB, he's just running
right up to the line and doing a sneak. They were in a nickle/dime package and the hurry up would have kept those guys on the field. You take the opponent by surprise and keep the ball in the hands of your giant human being. That’s what lost them the game if you want to talk one play. in my opinion.

The selling point for ND used to be the exposure, which led to a better shot at making the NFL. Pretty much every college game is televised nationally these days so I would say they have lost most of that edge. Also, who actually wants to go to South Bend?

They still have a huge advantage in that TV contract and when they make it to a BCS bowl they don't have to share the money with the conference

it really comes down to success on the field, once they start to experience some success. USC was abysmal before Carroll and has nowhere near the resources that ND has.

money in college and the pros is vastly different.
money pays for things to attract players (facilities/coaches/etc) not players. nd already has great facilities. how does “if we go to a bcs school we dont have to split the payout.” attract kids?
How much does "the college experience" come into play?
South Bend is a cold miserable place with nothing to do. Not really a party school and you have to study your ass off. It doesn’t carry the prestige it used to that negates these things. I might be wrong, but I think a lot of high school players share that perception.

The problem is the coaching...
you have to have coaches that are willing to work their asses off to bring in the kids that you are going to need to win. Look at the top programs right now and see how many of them have worked together. They have a process in place and guys that are willing to work hard.

None of there ex-coaches are currently head coaches, and only Weis currently is coaching. Davie never got another job, and Willingham was awful at UW. These are guys that are too young to be totally out of coaching. Infrastructure and work ethic go along way.

he is the one who is hiring all these shitty head coaches who in turn hire shitty asst coaches, who in turn do a shitty job of recruiting. The AD is also caving in to the fan base if the coaches don’t show immediate success. I think Weis was lazy and Willingham was a bad hire but Brian Kelly is a good coach that built a good program at CMU and Cincy. If he doesn’t have success at ND, it would lead me to believe that some other type of issues are hamstringing him.

but if he is successful without ever having worked for a proven success then he has really overcame the odds stacked against him. You can’t just line up with a bunch of athletes and a nice system and expect to get the job done. The guys who are successful run their programs like a corporation, I haven’t heard that about Brian Kelly. Urban got worn out and got worked the last two years. You think if you gave any SEC school the choice between a Brian Kelly or a Kirby Smart/Major Applewhite they would pick Brian Kelly?

I run my $100 buy in a bit different, instead of huge cash prizes at the end we do $10 payouts each week and 3 $50 contests throughout the year
Keeps everyone motivated to stay in it the entire year and you can still get some money back if you have a shit team and get lucky. Our contests this year were the March Madness tourney, two months of Ottoneu, and I’m going to have them fill out google forms with playoff/award predictions. Winner still gets $350, second $175, 3rd $75, 4th $50. It’s a great league and I’m always looking for alternates in case someone has to drop out.
