The Night in Pictures
Because right now, I'm still so blown away I can barely think. There have been some great photos, gifs, and photoshops done all taken or created within the last few hours, so please, enjoy. This was a night that will go down in the history books, and one I'll certainly remember forever. These pictures hopefully help capture it somewhat.
First, the visual game recap. These photos are all from Getty Images:
And after the jump, things get a bit wild.
(Kudos to our friends at Camden Chat for this one.)
And now, the Red Sox's playoff odds:
Glorious. Simply glorious.

The best part of the Red Sox losing...
…for me, anyway, had to be the half-assed throw Carl Crawford made to the plate. Just took his sweet-ass time making that throw. To use Carl’s own phrase he was very “lacksakadaisy”. Schadenfreude at its finest…
Maybe if Red Sox fans showed up to games...

History
I was talking with a friend about how a night like tonight can be a springboard for a franchise. For years we’ve heard about NY and BOS history and the epic wins and collapses blah blah blah. This type of game builds legacies, traditions, and the I remember where I was when that happened moments! Awesome! Go Rays!
by tdwp56 on Sep 29, 2011 1:46 AM EDT via mobile reply actions
I was going to post this exact sentiment
These are the games you look back on as a fan. This is how you build tradition, and that’s how you inspire a fan base to show up even when a team isn’t great. Dan Johnson is a team legend, and Longo may be just starting to build his national legacy.
Better yet

No worries. I ended up getting cable last season just for the postseason, but then realized too late I could have just stuck with MLB.tv.

I'm in that picture with Longoria spraying the champagne
With the arms up and a huge smile. I can’t wipe it off my face.

Well I'm damn sure not showering
Also, my buddy got Damon’s champagne soaked playoff hat because he was wearing a Gators shirt.

rosterbation time, a lot of tough decisions on the roster here
Jaso, Shoppach
Kotchman,
Zobrist, Rodriguez
Brignac, Johnson
Longoria
Jennings, Fuld
Upton
Joyce
Damon (13)
Price, Shields, Helly, Moore
Farns, Peralta, Gomes, Mcgee, Cruz, Ramos, Davis, Howell
We'll have a proper rosterbation thread tomorrow afternoon.
Don’t worry.

no to E Johnson, Howell, Davis

I think EJ makes it for his speed/defense over D.Johnson and no way in hell Canzler makes it
Guyer would make it over him.
that's it. couldn't think. But I can't fathom EJo on a postseason roster.
Then again ,Rocco….

he shouldn't and probably won't play but we may need him if Kotch or Shop gets on late in a game
and for some reason Maddon doesn’t seem to like Canzler or his bat/glove at least. I don’t see him going from not playing him basically at all in September to adding him to the postseason roster.
Fuld is the pinch runner speed guy
We shouldn’t need more than one of those

I didnt get home until DanJo’s AB. I was cursing my damned Jewish ‘holiday’ all night, especially when the rays were ‘done’ 7-0 at the start of the service. Got out of temple and saw the score was 7-6 top 9 and i drove live a mofugger all the way home. so glad i did

Per Nate Silver
The Red Sox had just a 0.3 percent chance of failing to make the playoffs on Sept. 3.
The Rays had just a 0.3 percent chance of coming back after trailing 7-0 with two innings to play.
The Red Sox had only about a 2 percent chance of losing their game against Baltimore, when the Orioles were down to their last strike.
The Rays had about a 2 percent chance of winning in the bottom of the 9th, with Johnson also down to his last strike.

by sattp on Sep 29, 2011 5:07 AM EDT via mobile up reply actions
A prudent move here and there (hi Sam Fuld) paved the way to that extra 2%.
Of course, bringing up Cory Wade or some other more obvious moves may have given us an extra 15%, but this organization does a lot of things right to be in the postseason in a rebuilding year.
Where’d Silver say that?
