ESPN's Schoenfield's top 5 rotations in MLB, Rays not on it.
David Schoenfield, a writer I usually like, wrote a article on the top 5 rotations in baseball, and had the Rays seventh. In the top 5 was the Yankees and Diamondbacks. Without any biasness, HOW is that possible for a guy to be a professional writer with the major sports site, and have that type of opinion...... the article is here: http://espn.go.com/blog/sweetspot/post/_/id/20057/ranking-the-five-best-starting-rotations

Well, he's wrong first of all.
But 2nd would be “omg Price’s ERA was higher!”, Shields will regress, Hellickson walked too many, Moore still hasn’t proven anything. Only rotation in baseball is the Phillies but we need to prove that like we need to prove everything.
Matt Moore. That is all.
Agreed
Rays have the “potential” to be awesome, but going into the season there are enough question marks that need to be answered. How does Shields look in an encore from last year? How does Helly do in sophomore year? How good can Moore be in a full season? Can whoever starts at 5 stay healthy and give solid innings?
That said, if Hellickson were on the Yankees he’d be hyped like crazy. But on the Rays he’s a question mark.

I'm not sure how you (him, actually) can say that Moore hasn't proven anything dimenishing his value
yet have Texas #2 with Darvish and Feliz in the rotation, last I checked only 1 of the 3 I mentioned as started and won a post-season game.

The Rays rotation actually isn't that good
They just pitch in among the most pitcher friendly stadiums with the league’s best defense in front of them. We have lots of depth, sure, but we’re not in the top 3 rotations for sure and probably not the top 5 either

Please....
Price is a proven #1 starter for 3 years, Shields had a great season yes, and will regress, but again, proven. Helly will regress too, but talking about a sub par 3 ERA and ROY, Moore has already shown what he can do in PRESSURE no less…but yet Joe Saunders and Ian “I pitched out of my mind” freaking Kennedy is not gonna digress? and saying that Nova and Hughes and Garcia are a better back end rotation? Absurd. Price will only be better while Shields and Helly will slightly digress prob, which I think evens out….. You ask every GM which rotation they want in baseball, Philly is one, Angels is two, and Rays are 3.
He might not be wrong

this is dumb
you can’t tell me our top 4 wouldn’t immediately kick out 4 other pitchers on the Yanks or DBacks
"Please break your typewriter and computer and never come out of your ass cave again"
We were 10th in fWAR last year. We'll be better this year.
The Dbacks are the only team I have a real quibble with as they were much lower, and I think adding Moore is better than adding Cahill.
you do realize we play 1/2 the games on the road and we are in argueably the toughest hitters division in baseball
the Yankees, Red Sox, and Blue Jays were all in the top 6 in runs scored last year and the Orioles were 14th. So yea I’d say are pitching is pretty good.
No.
Our run prevention is good.
Isn’t WAR league adjusted? Too bad it isn’t division adjusted either.
It should be. But it isn't, is it?
So maybe Dbullsfan has a point. The Rays play quite a few games in hitters parks and play agaisnt some tough offenses. Boston is #1 in wRC+, New York is #2, The Jays are #7, and the Orioles are #8.
Was this before or after the Romulo Sanchez signing?

Something that's pretty amazing to me is the fact that we were second in the league last year in IP by starters.
The reason that’s amazing is because we had a rookie and second year starter, and we all know how cautious the FO and Joe are about guys going deep in to games.
The innings could be the same or higher this year.
Hellickson can go over 200, Moore can got to 200, Price is free, SHields is a monster, and Niemann is free (but he won’t touch 200).
In 2009 I remember they got a 100 pitch limit per game for rookies?
I believe last year they are very confident about Helly’s pitching mechanism
