Rays Community Prospect #29 Runoff
Jose Lobaton and Ty Morrison both had 4 votes. The voting comes down the them for the 29th spot.
Jose Lobaton(C): A catcher who has slowly worked his way up the minors, Lobaton offers good defense with a questionable bat. (http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/l/lobatjo01.shtml)
Ty Morrison (CF): A speedy OF with the potential to gain some power, Morrison has plenty of physical upside. However, to this point, the injuries have limited him. (http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=morris001ty-)

not really thrilled about either choice, but right now there’s absolutely nothing to like about Morrison

There's one thing to like about him: speed
2010 he showed promise, last year he was hurt. Hopefully he has a healthy 2012 so we get a better feel for where his career is heading. He certainly needs to improve the OB skills to take advantage of his speed, which is near the tops of the system right now.
There are several guys in the org who aren't even testers yet with better speed and better stats
Bad Left Hook - The SB Nation boxing blog
"Baseball is played on the field, not on a calculator."
Huh?
Sure his 2011 was a lost year (probably due to injuries), but he is young and had two good years in a row in 2009 and 2010 (116 and 112 wRC+). He has tremendous speed, is a good athlete, and can play a good CF. I’m not sure why not people don’t like him.
not sure where you're getting those wRC+ numbers
In 2010, Morrison hit .250/.324/.394 with 133 (!) Ks in 512 PA; the league hit .257/.333/.384. In 2009, Morrison hit .271/.365/.369 with 27 BB/61 Ks in rookie ball.
I can’t find anyone currently in the majors with that sort of offensive profile (no power, idiotically high K rate, intermittent walks). Even your Juan Pierre types hit a hell of a lot better and strike out a hell of a lot less.

Are you talking about the right guy?
no power, idiotically high K rate, intermittent walks
This is all stats and numbers stuff, and I see the numbers, but your description is total hyperbole.

a .361 SLG is "a little power"?
I mean, Juan Pierre slugged .393 in the minors.
I just don’t see anything there that even projects out to be, say, 75% of Sam Fuld without a major breakthrough. I’m rooting for him, obviously, but right now I just don’t get it.

use ISO, not SLG.
Juan Pierre hit for a much better average (.331 in the minors), and SLG double dips into that. Is Juan Pierre’s ISO higher than Morrison’s? Serious question. I’m not taking the time to calculate it, but he only hit 1 HR in 1311 AB in the minors. He had 67 XHB overall.
Morrison’s got 65 XBH in under 1000 AB.
You’re being weirdly biased against Morrison, and your justifications have been nothing more than crappy. Your analysis is anything but progressive.

again, find me a player with Morrison's minor-league profile who's made the majors
I’d be happy to be wrong about this.

might be a tad hyperbolic
but seriously: can you find me a major-leaguer who slugged .360 in the minors with Morrison’s K rate? I can’t find one, even considering all sorts of punch-and-judy types (I talk about Juan Pierre below). Even your slappiest of slap hitters generally slug in the .400 range in the minors with a lot fewer Ks.
I’d be happy to be wrong on this.

I think there's a lot to like about Morrison.
Really young still, good enough bat for CF, amazing speed. If he gets his K rate down to reasonability, he could be something along the lines of Ellsbury-lite (batting average will be lower) for his ceiling. But I don’t know anything about prospects, so I’m probably wrong.

Maybe you should christen him with a terrible nickname
That way, with your track record, he’ll be an All Star next year.

How is this runoff still going while the Canzler ones were taken down within 5 or 6 hours?

We generally get 20 votes in total for these polls.
At the time, the voting was so scewed that Canzler could not have one. At this point, Lobaton, while needing a miraculous run, could come back.
There was only 13 and 15 votes total in the Canzler runoffs prior to the one in which he was given a spot on the list.
This is just as lopsided, and people have had more than enough time to vote, whereas in the Canzler runoffs, your agenda had the voting stopped before some members like myself even got home from work.

Are you being serious?
http://www.draysbay.com/2012/1/9/2693612/rays-community-prospect-21-runoffIn this one, Canzler simply couldn’t come back.15 votes had gone, and Canzler would have needed 9 straight votes that didn’t exist to come back.
http://www.draysbay.com/2012/1/6/2686920/rays-community-prospect-20-runoff In this one, Canzler would have had to have gotten all seven votes.
I understand you wanted Canzler higher. But to say I have an agenda is just wrong in this case.
Come on.
You’ve stated that you didn’t want Canzler ranking as high as he did.
This poll is nearly identical to both Canzler run offs, and it’s been up for over 24 hours as opposed to 6.
It’s over now, though. You can admit to the agenda because it won’t make a difference anymore.

Huh?
I participate in the voting, so I think that it is fair that I wanted Canzler lower. Nothing in my actions has suggested that I have cheated.
This poll is not identical. While it seems like Morrison is the heavy favorite, a nice run by Lobaton can make it close.
And if I had an “agenda”, don’t you think I would have closed this earlier since I vote for Morrison?
If you didn't have an agenda against Canzler, you would've let those polls run longer than you did.
Your agenda has nothing to do with Morrison. Quit pretending.
