Cubs acquire Rizzo for Cashner
Really? I mean ... I'm not sure Rizzo succeeds at the ML-level, but Cashner is not a lot for Rizzo! I hope AF has something cooking.

I agree
Usually I blindly back Andrew Friedman and co. but this seems like it would have been a very logical swap to trade a pitching prospect for a 1B prospect given the organization’s depth in pitching and complete lack of 1B.
So where do we stand now?
With LoMo, Rizzo, and Alonso taken, are we down to Los and Kotch as short term solutions?

I think the mets are the best option now
Between davis, duda and murphy, there should be a fit there

I don't think AF would be willing
to offer nearly the amount of prospects it would take to land Ike Davis.
What were you thinking about offering for the other two?

I'd guess the offer would have to be one of those pitchers
Davis or Niemann. Maybe Cobb. Davis for either Murphy or Duda should be a decent deal when you consider his contract.

Let's trade Reddick for Heyward!

Ehhh I'm not sure we really match up then
Wade Davis has a team friendly contract and a good pedigree, but it’s hard to ignore the fact he hasn’t been good and seems to be going backwards.
Murph may have injury concerns but he was 4th in the NL in hitting, among players with at least 400 PA. Duda lead all rookies with at least 300 PA in baseball with a 136 wRC+…by an incredibly wide margin. His rookie season was probably better than the one Freddie Freeman just had.
They aren’t graceful, nor are they attractive, but they certainly can hit. All Wade has going for him is his contract.

Eh Davis has some value beyond his contract.
He’s pitching in the toughest division, and he was very good in the minors.
Also, you must figure that Murphy was playing a little over his head last season. Duda might be a little too much, though.
Who’s in the rotation over there, anyway? Is Santana healthy? Is Pelf even still there? Dickey,Niese, and Gee are there, right? It looks like Davis or Niemann would probably be the 2nd best pitcher in the rotation after Dickey unless Santana comes back right.

Niese is better than either one of them
But the fact that Davis would be the best second best pitcher in a bad rotation isn’t enticing. The rotation on opening day, I expect, is only a rough approximation of what it would look like at the end of the year.
I’m not saying Davis doesn’t have upside, but it isn’t impossible for any lauded prospect not to reach that ceiling. He could be a fine pitcher one day, but the dropping K and groundball rates, along with the decreasing velocity don’t inspire confidence.

I think sandals is just pointing out that you'd be improving a position of need.
I think the Rays would have to throw in another B prospect with a pitcher to land any of them, and I see them trading Niemann rather than Davis. Why trade him after the season he just had when he now has all these years to turn it around?

Right now, Duda is the starting RF'er and Davis the starting 1st baseman for the Mets.
And Murphy may be their best option for second base. There is virtually no one penciled in behind these guys so I don’t see Duda or Davis going anywhere…even for a Davis or Neimann. Their outlook for 2012 is not very good so I don’t see the need for even a #2 starter now.
Murphy would be the most likely to be traded out of those three but his defense is below average at best, wherever he plays. So you’re looking at a DH type with little power. Think Kotchman with no defense. Not sure that is a fit for the Rays
One problem though
Duda is horrible outfielder. -11.8 uzr last year and by all reports looked lost out there. I dont know if they can afford to keep him out there.

I don't think Niese is definitively better than either
Especially Niemann.
