Apparently the Royals have dropped Robinson from their 40 man roster. I think that, earlier this year, somebody on this site was hoping that the Rays would deal one of our pitching prospects for him. He is a huge, 6'5", 240 pound left hand hitting first baseman who has been very good at every minor league stop. He did repeat AAA in 2012, and his overall numbers dropped some, but his BB% went up and his K% went down. He has generally walked a lot and struck out very little (11.4% in 2012).
After consecutive 29 and 23 home run seasons, he only hit 13 in 2012, but he continued to double at a good rate with 37 after 41 and 35 the previous 2 years.
I don't know if he is a real prospect any more at a soon to be 28 (Feb). But as late as May, 2012, Hulet at FanGraphs had a positive report. In February, 2012, Catania (FanGraphs) had him at #91 for possible fantasy value on his top 100 list. His reasoning for the low rating was the logjam in KC ahead of him. But it was still ahead of Archer and Matt Adams, for example. So he must have considered him a real talent.
Should he be added to the list of possible Rays signings?
