The valuable reliever said he wanted to stay with the Tampa Bay Rays, and he put his money where his mouth was by agreeing to a new deal.
As first reported by Hector Gomez of Deportivo Z101 last night -- and then confirmed by Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times a few minutes ago -- Joel Peralta has re-signed with the Tampa Bay Rays. Gomez reports that the deal is for two years and $6 million, with a team option of $2.5 million for 2015, but no official details have been announced.
Peralta has a 1.3 rWAR and a 1.8 fWAR in his time with the Rays while throwing 134.2 innings across 148 contests. He is coming off a strong 2012 season in which his strikeout rate rose by eight percentage points and he held opponents to a sub-.200 batting average for a third consecutive season.
