It feels weird to even think about baseball after one of the most heart-wrenching and emotional days in recent memory, but here we are. I'm not going to go all Bob Costas on you, because it truly is not my place for soap boxing, but I'd be lying if I said my mind wasn't elsewhere as I sit at this keyboard tonight.

There surely should be something articulate and thoughtful to say, but I can't seem to find anything. I've been left mostly speechless by the horrific events in Newtown, Conn.

Ultimately, there is nothing much to say except a humble suggestion to hug your kids, your wife, your mothers and fathers. Hold them close today and appreciate life because its precious. Pray, if that's your thing, for those who were lost and those left behind whose lives have been forever ruined. Most importantly, try to be a better person today and in the future. If we want to live in a world where terrible things like this happen even a little bit less, it starts with being compassionate to one another and that begins with each of us, individually.

• The Toronto Blue Jays are potentially close to acquiring Mets Cy Young winner R.A. Dickey in a deal that would see top Jays prospect Travis d'Arnaud head to New York. The Mets and Dickey have been an impasse in regards to his contract for weeks and Ken Rosenthal tweets that it is a foregone conclusion he will be on the move. The Rangers had interest but wouldn't move top prospects, Olt or Buckel, for the knuckle-baller.
• The Detroit Tigers re-signed right-hander Anibal Sanchez to a sizable, $85-million dollar deal that some are calling an overpay.
• Carson Cistulli shared a (very)little information on newly acquired Rays minor-leaguer, Vince Belnome, complete with video of Belnome hitting a grand-slam.
• Matt Bush will accept a plea deal in his DUI hit-and-run case next week that will see the former No. 1 pick get at least three more years in prison. Brandon Guyer is also facing a $5-million civil lawsuit as the owner of the Dodge Durango driven by Bush.
