Remember all that time that Evan Longoria was injured in the middle of last season? Wonder what he was doing with all that spare time on his hands? Well, now we know part of the story:
Evan & I really appreciate all of the kind words & well wishes we have gotten today...we look forward to being parents— jaime edmondson (@jaimeedmondson) December 17, 2012
A huge congrats to Evan and Jaime. That's an adorable picture, and the two of them seem to be quite the couple. And hey, with that new contract, it's not like Evan's going to need to worry about moving in the foreseeable future.
And now, on to the rest of the news:
- The Mets and Blue Jays have pulled the trigger on a major trade that sends Cy Young winner R.A. Dickey to the Blue Jays, in exchange for top prospects Travis d’Arnaud and Noah Syndergaard. This is a haul for both sides, and while the Blue Jays are paying a hefty price, they'd also be getting an affordable ace and could become quite the force in the AL East this upcoming season. The trade is now agreed to "in principle", assuming the Blue Jays can sign Dickey to an extension over the next 72 hours.
- The Yankees have had a quiet off-season thus far, but if a recent rumor is true, they could be interested in Michael Bourne. Then again, saying a team is "interested if the price comes down" isn't exactly a ringing endorsement.
- The Red Sox have signed shortstop Stephen Drew to a one-year deal, giving them a solid carry-over player there until either their prospects develop or they find a better long-term solution.
- This MLB.com article on manager-umpire confrontations is hilarious, and it also makes me wish I was better at lip-reading. Apparently, Joe Maddon can get quite creative when yelling at an umpire, and has even gotten tossed from a game for telling an ump, "I love you."
