I heard earlier that Damon and Vlad want 5M each

No one can be dumb enough to give them that much

That's what has been reported, yes

Damon at least earned that and could do it in NY. Vlad has no shot at earning that.

I was hoping to get Vlad as a RH bat

But not at that price, 2M is the highest I would like to see them go for a bench bat, I rather have Magglio anyways

Kotchman Sept line > Laporta

Most arguments are really about context.

besides, i always called for the Rays to upgrade 1B if possible

the only time i rallied for Kotch was when i heard the absurd options at 1B like Juan Miranda, Brandon Allen, Russ Canzler and so on, It’s then that i said go get Kotch

HR power? Probably

Kotch’s beiggest drawback is he’s a first baseman where everyone falls in love with one thing ISO

Last year Kotch was in the top half in wOBA, wRC+, OBP and the like

I wouldn't mind having Kotchman's year again.

The whole “Kotchman didn’t have power” act by some smart baseball people was (hopefully) just an excuse not to bring up BABIP.

I care less what he hits but my guess is he'll hit about

the same as always when he’s playing as a regular which it appears he’ll be in CLE

That is somewhere between a 750-780 OPS

Is anyone surprised by this?

For a moment, I thought this happened months ago…

by d.russ on Feb 2, 2012 5:34 PM EST reply actions

we lost this one!

Only a one year deal wasnt he looking for a mult year deal? Will there still be Kotch magic next year?

by Paul Ellis on Feb 2, 2012 6:22 PM EST reply actions

All former Rays 1B except Carlos Pena

I think I might actually prefer Kotch at 3 to Pena at 8 though if the other 5 could’ve gone towards signing say… Ryan Madson

Kotchman will sustain or improve his BABIP from last year

since so many of his grounballs will be going through that Detroit infield.
