not in those terms, but more in terms of no team wanting to trade for a player with an unsettled arb hearing coming up.
Not likely. 3.2M vs 2.75M would not have been a dealbreaker

The market seems painfully dry for Niemann/Davis caliber starters unfortunately

Are either in a position to offer fair value?
I got away from the one thing that kept me on the straight and narrow, and that was my relationship with the Lord
KC farm system is still pretty deep (#5 overall), so yea, them.
Anaheim has Jerome Williams penciled in as their no 5 starter. They should be a dance partner.
Astros too if they want to bring their boy home.
Astros don't have enough to even field a team
Let alone make a trade.
KC would be a nice fit, but don’t see Myers/Perez being available. We need a list of 1B/OF/DH/C prospects that are blocked or expendable by a contending team.
I put the screw IN THE TUNA!
I can't think of five trades ever
Where a Davis/Niemann caliber starter has been traded for fair value the way people on this site measure fair value. Edwin-Joyce might count, only the perception of Edwin’s value was higher, plus Joyce wasn’t even as good of a prospect (popularly) as people expect to get in return unless you gave a lot of weight to his sss big league stint. We can try to find hidden value, but most teams think it has a #4 starter hidden on its own roster. Nobody wants to trade for one. And you can throw numbers at it, but the fact of the matter is that very few other GMs would think of either one as more than a #4 starter, and if you don’t pick and choose numbers rather than looking at all of them, they’re probably right.

If the Rays could add another 1st baseman, I would look at Shelly Duncun
Way on the outs in Cleveland now with Kotchman and Canzler there. He has had some success against lefties but has also hit RH’ers as well at times over the last two years. He does have power, can play some C’OF, has always hit well w/RISP, and his KO rate is coming down.
A concern though is that he is out of options I believe which makes bringing him in a bit of a risk but at a low cost, IMO.

Ironically, Andrew is actually Goliath in this situation.
He was 4-0 going into the hearing. Jeff was the little guy; and his rock did not connect. :(

You do know that David beats Goliath, right?
Im not sure it makes sense the other way

My point was Niemann is the underdog going into the hearing;
hence the irony.

why does it matter if he's jewish?

I too cheer for players to make less money. Screw labor, go management!

Well, that's an ignorant comparison because:
1) There is real salary crippling component to that, unlike the fake salary cap put on the Rays by Sternberg
2) I had no rooting interest in that contract negotiation, here I am making fun of the people in this thread lauding Friedman for saving the team $500k

500K saved is always a good thing
If we exceeded expected budget thats 500K less that will ultimately come out of somewhere else.

That's not a competition? You're really grasping at straws here

I think as fans you should always be hoping the team prevails in arb,you want better lower cost contracts o the other resources can be reallocated
I’m sure you feel there is no cap and therefore endless possible resources, but thats silly.
