Time To Start Thinking About Fantasy Baseball

Every so often, we're going to have advertisement posts here at DRaysBay. If they're not your thing, please feel free to skip -- totally understood.

If you're reading this and you haven't already started thinking about this upcoming season of fantasy baseball...well, what are you waiting for? Chalk it up to my obsession with baseball, but I've already been researching and scheming my 2012 fantasy strategy for the past couple weeks. It's an addicting game, and I can never get enough.

So if you are looking for a fantasy baseball game to play in 2012, SB Nation would like you to consider Yahoo! Sports.

(Personally, I've played in a Yahoo! league for around 9 of the past 12 years, and I like their leagues better than ESPN or CBS, but I know that's just me. Their layout is great and makes them one of the easier free leagues out there to understand and use. But again, that's just my opinion.)

Star-divide

  • Yahoo! Sports is the leading fantasy provider and home to the #1 Fantasy Baseball game available – all for free! It brings fans closer to the game and players they love with free live scoring, mock drafts, mobile apps, over 80 scoring categories, live and offline draft apps, and tools to manage your keeper league.
  • Yahoo! Sports now offers the fantasy fanatic an even more competitive way to play, Pro Leagues are here! Join a Pro League for $20 or $100 and compete to win cash prizes. For those who dare to put some skin in the game.
  • Yahoo! Sports Fantasy Baseball '12 is easy and fun to play for the rookie or veteran fantasy user.
  • Yahoo! Sports Fantasy Baseball provides fans with top-notch information, resources, and expert advice.
  • Yahoo! Sports provides pre-draft advice clips to help you draft the best team possible. Fantasy advice is also available throughout the season with bi-weekly video clips and weekly radio coverage on the Fantasy Freaks (every Friday 8pm-10pm ET).
  • Fantasy baseball is the original social network, it is the way friends stayed connected over America’s pastime no matter where they were, Yahoo! Sports continues the tradition by letting fans talk smack talk, check'in, and chat on newly launched message boards.
  • Game opens 2/9/12 – get ready to play ball!
Yahoo! Fantasy Baseball supports SBNation for its commitment to furthering America's hardball obsession. As the #1 Fantasy Baseball game, players can count on Yahoo! to provide all the research, stats, live scoring, video highlights, and mobile apps to make this season the best yet. Game opens 2/9/12 - Sign up!!!

This is literally the most Collette post ever posted

As an unbiased, unpaid voice I can assure everyone that ESPN is far superior to Yahoo!

I haven’t played on Yahoo! since I was in diapers though so they may now have an app for the iPhone that makes it easy to set your team or seamless year to year keeper leagues that I’ve never had a problem running. In fact, I can’t think of one thing that Yahoo! does better than ESPN. Keep in mind that I am not receiving any money for my opinion when making your own.

Yahoo seems to have gotten slower and slower.

Setting lineups this past season was painful. ESPN was much faster.

Other than that, though, it’s pretty neutral for me. Pros and cons for both sites. The one major con regarding ESPN is the stupid DL management. You have to go to a separate roster management page to manage the DL. It’s a ridiculous waste of time.

One thing I like about Yahoo, though, is the articles. Between the ones readily available on the fantasy frontpages of ESPN and Yahoo, I’ve always preferred Yahoo’s. I don’t really care much for the writers at ESPN.

Eh, the money's not going in my pocket...I'm planning on spending it all on staff resources and on-site giveaways.

And I was the guy bitching to you and Toppah last season about using ESPN over Yahoo for the DRB league. I just don’t like ESPN, for whatever reason. It’s too cluttered for me. Yahoo was also the site of my very first fantasy league, so that possibly influences me some…nostalgia and all.

But, for what it’s worth, ottoneu is loads better than ‘em both. And there’s no pay in that for me.

I love Casey Fossum. Now try and take me seriously.

I like Yahoo better

Yahoo is cleaner and clearer and I think their player ranking system is much better.

ESPN is fine though. It’s all about preference

I don't have much experience with pay leagues...sorry.

The only one I’ve played in is ottoneu, which is a rather unique setup. I think it’s cool, but it depends how hardcore into baseball you are. If you’re looking for something more traditional….umm, Collette?

is this an SBN thing or just me? Only happens for DRB though.

It dumps to this screen in Firefox, if you reload it then works fine, seems like an ingenious way to double your hits

Probably just that Delocated ad triggering firewalls because it's pretty inappropriate/NSFW to have a guy in his underwear on your screen

Huh, I dunno. I'm trying to duplicate it, but I'm not getting anything like that.

I’ll pass it along to the tech team…SBN’s been particularly buggy over the last few days. No idea why.

Regarding leagues on Yahoo

What is going on with the DRB Keeper league this year?

Between Yahoo and ESPN I like the ESPN format better.

by gjsor on Feb 7, 2012 10:56 AM EST reply actions

I actually prefer Yahoo but

they only allow 30 man rosters and in a dynasty league that takes them right out of the equation. It sucks, too, because they seem to update the probable pitchers more accurately.
