Fresh off sweeping the Angels and taking two of three from the Rangers in Texas, the Rays come right back home to play two more series against the American League West. The good news is that it is against the soft underbelly of the division in Seattle and Oakland but the bad news is the series starts with Felix Hernandez on the mound tonight for the Mariners. Last year, the Seattle series at home was over a weekend and drew crowds of 14, 20, and 17 thousand over the weekend. What do you put the over/under at for the Rays drawing 125K fans in this seven-game homestand?

News of the day includes:

  • The Rays farm system had a terrible, no good, awful, very bad day yesterday. OUCH
  • Baseball Prospectus has tweaked their prospect tracker tool yet again and now has an ability to show leaderboards at all minor league levels. Also, the guys at BrooksBaseball are coming under the BP umbrella but their data will remain freely available for everyone.
  • ESPN was rather complimentary of the Rays last night according to The Ray Area
  • Tim McCarver has a great theory on why home runs went up in the 90's
  • Jeremy Hellickson's groundball rate is surging in 2012, but look at who tops the list at Fangraphs....
  • Johnny Damon may be back in baseball as soon as tomorrow with the Indians. Their clubhouse will immediately become amazing and the bestest ever.
  • What is the math behind seating charts? Enjoy
  • The Giants are using field f/x
  • Are closers overpaid? A very interesting take by mgl
