Down On The Farm: June 13

Durham laid an egg on national TV, but the two lower levels came away with wins.

AAA Durham Bulls (28-39)

In a nationally televised game, the Bulls did not impress in an 8-3 loss. Jim Paduch hit the shower early, allowing five runs in just 1.2 innings. Alex Torres relieved him and allowed two runs, one earned, in 2.2 innings, but the unusual thing is that he allowed seven hits. Although Toledo starter Andy Oliver got credit for a quality start, he wasn't very effective and Durham had their chances. One highlight for Durham was Shawn O'Malley hitting his second home run of the season, a new career high. O'Malley also hit a double, the only Bull to have more than one hit. While Reid Brignac's struggles are well-known among Rays fans, and Detroit is dealing with a similar problem with Ryan Raburn. The former USF Bull hit his first AAA home run in his 8th game since being optioned. He has a .533 OPS with Toledo.

AA Montgomery Biscuits (33-30)

Montgomery enjoyed an off day.

High-A Charlotte Stone Crabs (27-35)

Charlotte was able to ride some early offense to an 8-5 win over Jupiter. The Stone Crabs received contributions up and down the lineup with every player getting on base at least once. The bottom of the lineup, Philip Wunderlich, Luke Bailey and Cody Rogers, was particularly productive, reaching base six times, scoring three times and driving in three runs. Bailey hit one of the team's two doubles, his first of the year. Victor Mateo was not good again, allowing four runs in 4.1 innings, although only one was earned thanks to three Charlotte errors. Fortunately for Charlotte, they built a 6-0 lead through their first three at-bats, and Jim Patterson ad Chris Rearick combined to allow one run in the final 4.2 innings to preserve the win.

Low-A Bowling Green Hot Rods (35-30)

A pair of early home runs backed by a solid start from Roberto Gomez helped Bowling Green beat West Michigan 6-2. West Michigan's offense consisted of two solo home runs, one in the 1st and one in the 7th. Todd Glaessman got the scoring started for the Hot Rods in the 2nd with a solo home run, his second dinger in as many days. An inning later, Jake Hager's RBI single chased the Whitecaps starter out of the game and gave Bowling Green a 2-1 lead. Drew Vettleson greeted the reliever with a two run homer, his 5th of the year. Gomez allowed two runs in 6.2 innings on seven hits and a walk while striking out four. Cameron Seitzer provided some late insurance for Justin Woodall by finally hitting his first home run of the season.

Star of the day- It was nice for Seitzer to get a home run.

Goat of the day- Jim Paduch did not have a good showing on MLB Network.
