There were plenty to see at Tropicana Field last night as two teams battled for supremacy in the American League East. Barry LeBrock was able to make it around the park last night to chat with several fans about the Rays this season and here is what they had to say.
"Left in the sixth inning to beat the traffic"
"This team can't catch a cold right now"
"I love the Brayser look but the Gandy Riviera is the place to be!"
"Indoor baseball sucks. Fake grass, roofs, DH? Why in the hell is the first baseman hitting leadoff??!!"
"I miss working in the booth with Dewayne Staats. Did I ever tell you about the time I managed the Dodgers?"
"Going to games alone is not that much fun but I do what I can"
"Well, I figure I'm coming to a sporting event so why not wear my Warren Sapp jersey!"
"I only come to nine games a season"
In all seriousness, the team has seen their rather impressive attendance numbers early in the season taper off rather quickly in May with the absence of Evan Longoria and Desmond Jennings. The team is pulling in 1,058 more fans per game this year so far and is 29,633 ahead of last season's pace as they try to avoid a fourth straight season of declining attendance.
Tonight is a concert night which tends to bring big crowds and LL Cool J has universal appeal that spans generations as both young and old love such tunes as Mama Said Knock You Out and I Need Love. Two of my personal favorites.
