The Rays Tank: Two ROY Nods for Rays

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Chris Archer and Wil Myers have been named as finalists for BBWAA's American League Rookie of the Year honors.

The finalists for the Baseball Writer’s Association of America were announced last night and the Rays have two finalists for American League Rookie of the Year, Chris Archer and Wil Myers. Jose Iglesias was also nominated for AL ROY honors. The full list of finalists and categories can be found here. Winners will be announced on Monday, November 11th.

Chris Archer tweeted out his thoughts on the nomination and extended congratulations to his teammate.

Sadly, Wil did not have another live interview on the announcement show last night, so we don’t have any new screencaps of his hair. However, he did announce on twitter that he will be getting a haircut today, because that’s all anyone could talk about yesterday.

David Price even joined in on the Wil-hair conversation,

-Rick Kriseman defeated incumbant Bill Foster in the St. Petersburg mayoral election last night, which plays to the Rays' advantage. By comparison, Kriseman is decidedly in favor of allowing the team to explore Stadium locations around Tampa Bay.

-Former Rays outfielder, Jason Bourgeois, was signed to a Minor League deal with the Reds, with an invite to Major League camp.

-Dustin Pedroia is set to undergo surgery on his thumb, which he compares to being like Tommy John surgery for pitchers.

-Doug Miller of examines free-agent closers around the league. With Rodney on the market, who do you see the Rays bringing in for 2014?

-Jon Heyman of CBS Sports has enlisted the help of an unbiased agent and GM to speculate on what free agents could be signed for. Loney is predicted to ink a two-year deal for around $14-20 million, while Rodney is expected to land a two-year deal for about $18-20 million.

-Sports on Earth examined some controversial logos throughout recent history.

-David Laurila of FanGraphs recently conducted an interview with a Professor about the physics of pitching that is really worth a read. Very intriguing!

-Also on FanGraphs, Jeff Sullivan examines the ‘lefty strike’.

-Brian McCann has the Yankees on his radar. Oh man, I would love to see him in the AL East and his reaction to Wil Myers’ batflip after another right-field homerun!
