The Rays Tank: Spring Training begins... tomorrow.

Kim Klement-US PRESSWIRE

I know, patience.

Last weekend was the final you'll have to sit through without baseball for a long while, and featured my first blizzard. The official report was 3 feet, but snow drifts piled it high on my street, so I had a fun time shoveling out my car, sidewalk, front porch, steps, trashcans... don't remind me how great the weather is in Tampa. I know.

For all those caught in the storm's path, I hope you've kept safe, warm, and that you never lost power!

Catchers and pitchers across baseball report this week, but the Rays camp won't officially start until Tuesday. The players know that, right?

Well someone should tell David... the remaining players beginning workouts on Wednesday. We're almost there!

If you have any burning questions about the Rays and spring training that you would like answered, beat writer Marc Topkin will be holding a live chat today at 2:00. For all the radio listeners, it was announced this morning that Topkin will be joining the morning show twice a day on 620 WDAE. An inside look should add some insight during the regular season. There's not much else to report, unless Reid Brignac or Elliot Johnson find a place to land.

The Rays could bring in another player, and there are a few interesting names left on the market. In center field, Michael Bourn and Scott Podsednik are still free agents, and the speedy Tony Campana may hit waivers in the coming weeks after being DFA'd.

Otherwise, unless a designated hitter were willing to take a Hideki Matsui minor league deal, the Rays should be done. Those options include Bobby Abreu, Johnny Damon, and Jim Thome, or maybe a first baseman like Casey Kotchman, who signed a minor league deal with the Rays in 2011.

In other speculative news, it seems the King Felix deal has hit a snag on the health of Hernandez's elbow. The Seattle front office is sworn to silence on contract negotiations, and Felix takes a physical on tuesday, so this seems premature. If anything, there might be some language in the contract to protect the Mariners should his arm give out.

LINKS

- The Rays have updated the rosters to include player numbers, on the 40-man and the non-roster invitees list.

- Kiley McDaniel dedicated his most recent prospect writeup for Fangraphs to Rays 2012 first round draft pick Richie Schaffer.

- The Tampa Bay Times made a feeble attempt at covering the true number of Rays season ticket holders on Sunday, but the Times has been in strong support of the Rays finding a new stadium so we can let this one slide.

- RedSox prospect Bryce Brentz won't make it out to big league camp, he shot himself in the leg.

- Astros owner Jim Crane, who I applaud for his efforts to rebuild the franchise, tied for third place at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, so that's interesting.

- And finally, JT is back!
