Down on the farm: April 10

Is Alex Torres working his way back to wearing this uniform in a meaningful game? - Jerome Miron-US PRESSWIRE

Bowling Green had their first morning game of the season

Durham carried over their momentum from the ninth inning on Monday, and Alex Torres cruised through five innings with great run support.

Triple-A Durham Bulls (5-1) ***Featured game of the day***

Durham jumped all over Gwinnett early and held on for dear life in their 12-8 win Tuesday. After Alex Torres struck out the side in the top of the first inning, the Bulls jumped all over Gwinnett starter Daniel Rodriguez who was only able to record one out. Durham piled up 10 runs in the first with 13 batters coming to the plate combining for eight hits, including two more home runs for Brandon Guyer. Two innings later, Wil Myers drove in a pair of runs after a couple Gwinnett errors, providing Torres with more than enough run support. Torres was sharp, throwing 49 of 74 pitches for strikes to get through five innings while striking out three and only walking one. Unfortunately, the bullpen was not quite as good. Steve Geltz and Frank De Los Santos combined to allow eight runs in two innings of work.

Double-A Montgomery Biscuits (3-2)

Montgomery enjoyed a day off.

Class-A Advanced Charlotte Stone Crabs (2-3)

The Stone Crabs rode a nice start from Ryan Carpenter en route to keeping Bradenton winless with a 6-2 win over the visiting Marauders. Carpenter, making his first start of the year after a relief appearance on Friday, fired five shutout innings, striking out seven, walking none and only allowing four hits. Carpenter's career has consisted of throwing a ton of strikes, and he has just 27 walks in 33 career starts. Jake Hager's RBI single in the third gave Charlotte their first lead of the night, and a fourth inning groundout and sac fly plated two more runs after three consecutive singles to open the inning. In the seventh, Alejandro Segovia's two-RBI single gave the bullpen insurance, and Lenny Linsky threw two scoreless frames to finish the game.

Class A Bowling Green Hot Rods (4-2)

Fans that woke up very early in western Kentucky were treated to an 8-3 Hot Rods win over Lansing. Three batters into the game, Opening Day starter Jeff Ames allowed a home run to Christian Lopes, but that would be the only run he allowed in his outing. It would be just one of two hits allowed by Ames, who finished with three strikeouts and one walk in five innings. Meanwhile, Bowling Green used a hit parade and speed to score seven runs between the second and fourth innings. They stole six bases total during the game, including two each by Tyler Goeddel and Andrew Toles. Toles was one of four Hot Rods with at least two hits, including his second double of the year. The highlight of the game came in the three-run second inning when outfielder Marty Gantt hit a two run inside the park home run to give the Hot Rods a lead they wouldn't relinquish.

Star of the day- Once again, the Rays got really good starting pitching up and down the organization.

Goat of the day- I usually don't award this when every affiliate wins, but De Los Santos allowing five runs in an inning is really, really not good.
