One of the great things about baseball is that a team coming off a couple of tough losses doesn't have long to dwell on the defeats. The every-day schedule allows teams another crack at victory incredibly quickly and even more so with a day game after a night game.
Unfortunately for the Tampa Bay Rays, mother nature is prolonging the misery of two-straight losses at the hands of the Texas Rangers. Thursday's matinee contest has already been delayed at least an hour due to rain that moved through the Arlington, Tex. area overnight, bringing with it near freezing temperatures; a very un-Texas like environment.
#Rangers already announce start of #Rays game will be delayed, at least 60 minutes— Marc Topkin (@TBTimes_Rays) April 10, 2013
Front is moving slower than forecast, so estimate of 1 hour delay is optimistic - could be 2 or more. First pitch was to be 1:05 Texas time— Marc Topkin (@TBTimes_Rays) April 10, 2013
That's why domes are better...
When the game eventually gets underway, Third-baseman Evan Longoria will avoid playing the field in the wet and the cold as he is slated to DH today's game. Shelly Duncan will make his first start at first-base, and Kelly Johnson is the lone left-hander in the lineup. Matt Joyce, who hurt his neck attempting a diving catch, Thursday, said he could play today and just suffered a bit of "whip-lash" on the play.
