Down on the farm May 10: Myers sick, everyone panic

Wil Myers may have had one too many Omahogs before last night's game - Matt Ryerson-US PRESSWIRE

An upset stomach limited the organization's top prospect to a few innings Thursday

It was a pretty forgettable day down on the farm.

Triple-A Durham Bulls (21-13) ***Featured game of the day***

Despite Wil Myers' early exit, Durham was able to add a couple late runs to beat Syracuse 4-2. J.D. Martin turned in a very good start, only running into trouble in one inning. Micah Owings led off the fifth with a home run to cut the Bulls' lead to 2-1, and the Chiefs tied the game a few batters later with a triple followed by a run-scoring groundout. Martin allowed just five hits in seven innings, striking out seven and walking none. Durham would score the eventual winning run in the bottom half of the innings, thanks to a sac fly by Leslie Anderson that scored Mike Fontenot. Rich Thompson, Myers' replacement, was 2/3 with a double and stolen base, and Josh Lueke struck out three in two scoreless innings and picked up the save.

Double-A Montgomery Biscuits (18-15)

Montgomery was dominated by Braves prospect Alex Wood in their 5-0 loss to Mississippi. Merrill Kelly was not up to the task of facing Wood and delivered his worst start of the season. He was charged with all five Mississippi runs, and it could've been worse. He allowed seven hits and walked five in five innings. Kyeong Kang had two of Montgomery's three hits including a triple. In relief of Kelly, Marquis Fleming and Braulio Lara combined to strike out six in four combined innings.

Class-A Advanced Charlotte Stone Crabs (10-23)

Bradenton got to Jesse Hahn in the first inning and got the winning run late in Charlotte's 4-3 loss to the Marauders. Hahn was charged with three runs in the first and exited after only two innings, obviously shorter than his customary three this season. After Hahn's departure, the Stone Crabs slowly chipped away at the lead and eventually tied the game after three one-run innings while Jake Floethe danced in and out of trouble and held Bradenton at three runs. In the eighth, Nate Garcia allowed the eventual winning run without allowing a hit. After leading off with a walk, Elias Diaz advanced to third thanks to a sac bunt followed by a wild pitch, and Dan Grovatt hit a sac fly to bring him in. Four Stone Crabs had mult-hit games, including Drew Vettleson who hit two doubles as part of a three hit effort.

Class A Bowling Green Hot Rods (21-11)

This time, Bowling Green did score enough to support a very good pitching effort in their 5-1 win over West Michigan. Dylan Floro lasted just long enough to get rewarded with a win, firing six innings of one-run ball and striking out four. The run he allowed tied the game at one in the sixth, but Bowling Green responded with a four run bottom half of the inning to take control of the game again. Thanks to four hits and two errors, the Hot Rods plated those four runs before West Michigan could even record an out. The big hit came off the bat of Andrew Toles whose two run single opened up a three run lead. In the midst of a slump, it was one of two hits on the day for Toles. Luke Maile also had a two hit game.

Star of the day- Dylan Floro was sharp and one of a few highlights from yesterday.

Goat of the day- Merrill Kelly, however, was not.
