My apologies for the lack of a thread yesterday. SB Nation was still experiencing technical difficulties, and I was unable to access the site. Hopefully things will be smoother from here on out.
Triple-A Durham Bulls (26-17)
The Bulls won by a 3-2 victory. Alex Colome might not have gotten the call to replace David Price, but he had a very strong outing yesterday that can only improve his standing with the big league club. Colome went six innings, giving up two runs on two solo shots in the fourth and fifth innings. He struck out eight batters, walked none, and surrendered seven hits. Steve Geltz pitched the final inning -- the game only lasted seven innings before being rained out. Jason Bourgeois hit a home run, driving home two runners. Otherwise, it was a pretty quiet day for the Bulls offensively.
Double-A Montgomery Biscuits
In the first game of their double header, the Biscuits lost 7-5. Jacob Thompson struggled through 4.2 innings, allowing seven runs on nine hits and three walks. The Biscuits scored five runs on seven hits and three walks, with Mayo Acosta reaching base all four times he came to the plate.
The Biscuits didn't fare any better in their second game, losing 6-1 to drop them to .500. Matt Buschmann went 5 innings, allowing four runs on nine hits and two walks. Braulio Lara pitched the final inning, allowing two runs. On the offensive side of the ball, Shawn O'Malley went 2-3 with a double.
Advanced Class-A Charlotte Stone Crabs (16-25)
Mike Montgomery's second rehab start did not go nearly as well, as he lasted only 4.2 innings and allowed seven runs. Kevin Brant relieved him but couldn't keep the Fort Myers Miracle off the board, allowing two runs. Ryan Brett picked up two hits in his second game back. Kes Carter and Hector Guevara both hit triples.
Class-A Bowling Green Hot Rods (26-14)
The Hot Rods didn't pitch nor did they hit in an 8-1 blowout at the hands of West Michigan. Eduar Quinonez and Jose Molina both allowed four runs apiece. No Hot Rods collected more than one hit, and only one of the Hot Rod's hits went for extra bases.
Star of the Day: Alex Colome continued his hot start.
Goat of the Day: A few starting pitchers deserve a mention here.
