Down On The Farm: May 26

Chris Archer makes the start today for Durham. - Greg Fiume

A recap of the minor league action.

Triple-A Durham Bulls (30-19)

Wil Myers, who has had a brutal May, helped lead the Bulls to their 11-6 victory yesterday by hitting a double and a home run. The Bull's offense feasted on the RailRiders pitching, chasing the starter Caleb Cotham out of the game in the fourth inning and then roughing up former top prospect Dellin Betances. Overall, the Bulls offense combined for ten hits (four of the extra-base variety) and eight walks. Out of the four pitchers for the Bulls, only Kirby Yates pitched well, hurling a scoreless ninth inning. JD Martin, the starter, allowed three runs in five innings.

Double-A Montgomery Biscuits (23-25)

A struggling Biscuit's offense could not rally behind some solid pitching in the Biscuit's 3-1 loss to the Jackson Generals. Merill Kelly pitched the first seven innings for the Biscuits, allowing three runs on six hits and a walk. Marquis Fleming finished the game with two scoreless frames. The Biscuit's only run came off of a solo home run off of the bat of Kevin Kiermaier. Mikie Mahtook was the only player to reach base multiple times.

Advanced Class-A Charlotte Stone Crabs (20-28)

For the second night in a row, the Stone Crabs could not maintain a lead as they fell to the Fort Myers Miracle 6-4. After breezing through the first six innings, Stone Crab's starter Felipe Rivero ran into trouble in the seventh inning, getting knocked around for four runs, although only two were earned. Lenny Linsky allowed the two decisive runs in the next inning. Jeff Malm and Taylor Motter drove in all of the earned runs for the Stone Crabs.

Class-A Bowling Green Hot Rods (29-19)

The Hot Rods defeated the Fort Wayne TinCaps 5-3 thanks to a brilliant offense performance by Marty Gantt. Gantt went 4-4, including a two run home run in the eighth inning that extended the lead to three and gave the Hot Rods some breathing room. Eduar Quinonez lasted five innings with surrendering three runs. Reinaldo Lopez notched the save while pitching the final four innings.

Star of the Day: Wil Myers had a nice offensive day for the Bulls, but Marty Gantt's night was too impressive to overlook.

Goat of the Day: Parker Markel and Lenny Linsky both allowed the late two run lead to slip away.
